At least, it is what occurs in one of Aftermath’s endings. In the other, Shang Tsung triumphs once again after beating Liu Kang, taking his thunder and fire god abilities, and eventually taking down Earthrealm, Outworld, and Netherrealm (with Chaosrealm and Orderrealm coming up next).

The goal of Shang Tsung’s plan—who is now a giant—is complete realm devastation and dominance. Aftermath’s Liu Kang ending seems to be the most rational canonical decision for NetherRealm Studios.

If the developer intends to create a new trilogy of games and reset the MK timeline, one of Kronika’s current timelines being permanently destroyed seems like an excellent place to start.

The environment of the Mortal Kombat tale that many gamers are acquainted with may be brought to life in NetherRealm thanks to the abundance of room and recognizable characters.
