GTA 6 Supporters Are Practically Stopping Smoking in Order to Live Till the Game’s Release

Update (October 2026): The trailer arrived on December 4, 2023, when Rockstar officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI for 2025. After two delays, the game is now due on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you are still on an older console, see whether you should upgrade from PS4 to PS5 before GTA 6. Fans who quit smoking expecting a release in a year or so will have waited about three years by launch day. The original November 2023 report follows.

Some fans say the wait for GTA 6 has given them a reason to quit smoking.

As Dexerto reported, one fan wrote on Reddit that excitement for GTA 6, and the thought of ending up in hospital or on heavy medication because of cigarettes, had pushed them to quit cold turkey, stopping all at once.

Other fans joined in

The post drew supportive replies:

  • One commenter said they had been having similar thoughts. They noted that a lot can change in the year or so they expected GTA 6 to take, and hoped everyone would stay healthy long enough to see it.
  • Another summed up the mood: “Rockstar has given people the will to live.”
  • A third thanked the original poster and said they were thinking about quitting too.

It is a lighthearted thread, but it shows how much anticipation there was. A game that had not even been officially shown yet was already motivating some players to look after their health.

Why the timing felt right

For years, Rockstar and its publisher Take-Two said almost nothing about the next Grand Theft Auto. That has finally changed.

Rockstar has confirmed that the first trailer will be released in early December. It will give fans their first official look at the game, rather than leaked footage.

At the time of this report, there was no release date. Some fans were already making real changes to their lives while they waited.

The wait turned out to be much longer

The commenter who expected the game in about a year was off by roughly two years. Anyone who kept their promise has had a long stretch to stay smoke-free. Here is how that wait unfolded.

  • May 2025: The first delay moved the game from 2025 to May 26, 2026, Push Square reported.
  • November 2025: A second delay set the current date of November 19, 2026, according to Variety.
  • June 2026: Pre-orders opened on June 25 at $79.99 for the standard edition.
  • August 2026: Rockstar premiered Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look on Netflix, 27 minutes of in-game footage.

With launch now less than seven weeks away, the finish line is finally in sight. Rockstar has already shown first real gameplay in the GTA 6 Extended Look. Take-Two repeated the November 19 date in its August 2026 earnings release.
