The 2004 Shrek 2 video game is getting a remaster. Aspyr Media announced DreamWorks Shrek 2 Remastered on Oct. 20, 2026, and it comes out on Nov. 10, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC.
It costs $29.99, and pre-orders on Steam and the Xbox Store were $26.99, a 10% discount, on Oct. 20, 2026. The release lands nine days before GTA 6, and IGN reported that the reveal trailer parodies GTA 6’s trailers.
How it was revealed
The remaster showed up first on an Xbox.com listing that went live too early, GameSpot reported, and Aspyr announced it officially after that. Aspyr is publishing the game. The original was published by Activision, according to GameSpot.
What is in the remaster
Aspyr’s Steam store page describes the same co-op adventure through the kingdom of Far Far Away, from Shrek’s swamp to Fiona’s castle. The listing promises:
- Rebuilt visuals: better textures, an enhanced interface, and 4K resolution and cutscenes.
- Co-op for up to four players: on the same couch, online, or a mix of both.
- Two new modes: a Photo Mode, and a Cheat Mode for unlocking cheats.
- Hero swapping: players can switch characters at any time to use their different abilities in fights and puzzles.
On Xbox, the store listing names Xbox Series X|S only, not Xbox One. It lists cross-platform co-op and multiplayer, and notes that the “game requires online multiplayer subscription to play on console.”

A higher age rating than the original
The Xbox Store lists the remaster as Everyone 10+, for fantasy violence and comic mischief. The original GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox game is rated E for Everyone in the ESRB’s database, for comic mischief and violence. Steam’s listing data also shows a 12 rating for Germany and a 6 rating for Brazil, both for fantasy violence.
The PC requirements
The Steam page lists these PC specs. Both tiers ask for 16GB of memory and 12GB of storage, and the minimum graphics cards listed include Nvidia’s RTX 3060 Ti and RTX 4060.
