The protagonist of Dragonborn meets Miraak, the original Dragonborn. The island of Solstheim, previously seen in the Bloodmoon add-on for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, is the setting for this game.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dragonborn Gameplay

The gameplay of Dragonborn is quite similar to that of Skyrim, in that the player is given complete freedom to roam the island of Solstheim and complete tasks whenever they like. We now have access to a wider variety of armor types, weapon types, environmental hazards, and foes.

The ability to tame and ride dragons is a brand-new addition to Dragonborn. Even though the player can employ a dragon to track down and slay foes, he or she will not have full control over the creature’s flight. There are also new dragon cries to learn.

But there’s one they fear. In their tongue they call him Dovahkiin, Dragonborn! The @ElderScrolls #Skyrim pic.twitter.com/01Kp2LuHyF

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dragonborn Release

On November 5, 2012, a trailer was released announcing Dragonborn. On December 4, 2012, the Xbox Live Marketplace saw the debut of Dragonborn. It wasn’t until February 5, 2013, that Microsoft’s Windows version became available. The PS3 version came out on February 12, 2013, in the Americas and Europe.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dragonborn Plot

The main storyline of Dragonborn begins when cultists worshiping a character named Miraak, also known as the First Dragonborn, attack the player character, the Last Dragonborn. After defeating the cultists, the player learns where they originally came from when they investigate their orders: the island of Solstheim.

The player then charters a ship, the Northern Maiden, from Windhelm to carry them to Raven Rock on Solstheim, where they will face off against Miraak and his minions.

After arriving at Solstheim, the player should start asking locals questions about Miraak. It is instantly clear that the bulk of the inhabitants of Solstheim has been unwittingly enslaved by Miraak and forced to labor on a number of runic monoliths referred to as “All-Maker Stones.” A Telvanni wizard named Neloth is among the unaffected bystanders; he is the one who leads the player to the Temple of Miraak.

Upon entering the Temple, the player meets Frea, a Nord who is immune to Miraak’s influence and is trying in vain to free her people, the Skaal, from his grip. When the player enters the Temple, she goes in with them. Upon entering, the player finds a “Black Book,” and upon reading it, they are unknowingly taken to a region of Oblivion known as Apocrypha, where they see Miraak planning his invasion of Tamriel.

As soon as Miraak learns of their arrival, he incapacitates them and treats the player as if they were beneath him before sending two Seekers back to Solstheim to bring them back to the city.

The player must then face off against the Lurkers, the other guardians of Apocrypha, sent by Miraak to reclaim the All-Maker Stones before returning to Skaal Village and performing a special dragon shout on an All-Maker Stone to purify the monolith and free the Skaal and the other denizens of the island from Miraak’s control.

The player is subsequently directed by Storn to Neloth, who explains that Miraak’s power comes from the Black Books, which belong to the Daedric Prince of Fate, Knowledge, and Memory, Hermaeus Mora.

Neloth will travel with the player to the Dwemer ruin of Nchardak in search of another Black Book contained within a mysterious container. They deactivate the device and discover the “Bend Will” shout, which is thought to be crucial in vanquishing Miraak. With the help of the Black Books, the player is able to return to the world of Apocrypha and meet Hermaeus Mora face to face.

For the month of December, we’re spotlighting a selection of mods that bring a festive feel to this time of year. 🌲

If the gamer wants to beat Miraak, Mora says, he must learn as much as Miraak does. In return for the secrets of the Skaal, one of the few bits of information he has preserved from the Daedric prince to add to his huge collection in Apocrypha, he promises to transmit such knowledge. After defeating Krosulhah, the dragon sent by Miraak to eliminate the player, outside of Nchardak, the player returns to Skaal Village in an effort to convince Storn to reveal the tribe’s secrets.

Storn will provide his blessing if Miraak’s control over the Water, Earth, Wind, and Beast stones is broken. Storn, despite Frea’s warnings, has a one-on-one conversation with Mora, who proceeds to drain him of his knowledge before killing him in public. The last word of “Bend Will” is then revealed, allowing the player to finally vanquish Miraak.

Returning to Apocrypha, the player uses “Bend Will” to subjugate Miraak’s dragon Sahrotaar and saddle him midair. To reach Miraak’s tower in the Summit of Apocrypha, Sahrotaar will take you there via airship. There, the player and Miraak engage in combat; during the course of the fight, Miraak sacrifices Sahrotaar and his other two dragons, Relonikiv and Kruziikrel, to replenish his strength.

However, Hermaeus Mora steps in and impales Miraak to death, expressing his anger at Miraak’s rebellion and betrayal of Mora’s trust with the knowledge he was granted by the Daedric Prince. Players are returned to Solstheim after Mora gives them Miraak’s soul and strength.

The player can return to the Summit of Apocrypha to recoup perk points and redistribute them as they see fit, allowing them to better tailor their playstyle for future adventures in Solstheim and Skyrim.
