Microsoft Tests a Windows 11 Feature to Manage Xbox Subscriptions

Update (October 2026): This feature did not stay in testing for long. Microsoft’s Windows 11 updates in early 2023 brought Xbox subscription details to the Accounts page in Settings. The plans have since been renamed: Xbox Live Gold became Game Pass Core in 2023, and Core became Game Pass Essential in 2025. Our original September 2022 report follows.

Microsoft is testing a way to manage Xbox subscriptions straight from the Windows 11 Settings app.

The feature arrived in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25193, released to the Dev Channel on September 1, 2022. Insider Preview builds are test versions of Windows for people who sign up to try features early.

Microsoft says it is beginning to roll out Xbox subscription management in Settings to Windows Insiders in that channel.

What the new Settings page lets you do

Members of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass for Console or Xbox Live Gold can see their subscription details under Settings > Accounts. According to Microsoft, the page lets you:

• See how often you are billed and which payment method you use
• See the games and benefits included with your subscription
• Manage or upgrade your subscription
• Redeem gift card codes
• Spot any action needed to keep your subscription running without interruption

Microsoft says it works like the Microsoft 365 subscription page that is already in Settings. At the time, the feature was limited to an Insider build and was still being tested before a wider release.

How it reached everyday Windows 11 users

The feature reached regular Windows 11 users a few months later. Microsoft’s January 19, 2023 preview update for Windows 11 version 21H2 (KB5019274) added Xbox subscription details to the Accounts page in Settings.

Subscribers could manage their plan there. People without a subscription could browse Xbox subscription options.

Version 22H2 had the same Xbox subscription card. Microsoft’s February 28, 2023 preview update for 22H2 (KB5022913) fixed a bug that kept the card from appearing for some people: those who had redeemed a code with recurring billing turned off.

The plan names have changed since

Some plan names in Microsoft’s 2022 announcement no longer exist. On September 14, 2023, Xbox Live Gold members were moved to the new Xbox Game Pass Core, Xbox Wire announced.

In October 2025, Core was renamed Game Pass Essential, and Game Pass Standard became Game Pass Premium.

Microsoft’s April 21, 2026 Game Pass update lists four plans: Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, Game Pass Essential and PC Game Pass.

Since that date, Ultimate costs $22.99 a month in the US, down from $29.99. PC Game Pass costs $13.99, down from $16.49. Prices may vary by region.
