Video games from almost any genre you can think of have long drawn inspiration from the Alien franchise.
From the cult classic horror game Alien: Isolation to the most recent installment in the series, Aliens: Fireteam Elite, a third-person shooter that served as a prequel to the original film trilogy, this has everything.
Aliens: Dark Descent, the next installment in the series, offers something a little different. This real-time strategy game portrays a colonial commander commanding a squad of marines against hordes of Xenomorphs on an extraterrestrial planet.
Focus Entertainment, the game’s publisher, has unveiled a new teaser that showcases gameplay and gives us a clearer plot picture. Twenty years have passed since the events of Alien 3 in Aliens: Dark Descent.
Your team must fix their ship because they are stranded on the moon, Lethe. Unfortunately, numerous Xenomorphs in Lethe don’t seem to enjoy seeing you.
You can choose to play Mako Hayes or Jonas Harper, two characters from various backgrounds who are both just trying to live. Focus Entertainment says we’ll face “a host of horrifying creatures new to the Alien franchise.” In other words, don’t limit yourself to only the typical Xenomorphs.
We also got a sneak peek at the gameplay, which marks the first time in recent memory that the Alien franchise has entered the real-time strategy genre.
Focus mentioned that you must make several choices when you explore these expansive open stages. For instance, you might barricade a door to keep Xenomorphs off your back, but that eliminates your escape route if you need to leave the area.

Every game should feel different as a result of push-and-pull decision-making. Additionally, each marine has a variety of specializations, skills, and weaponry that you can choose from, emphasizing the potential for replayability.
The Alien franchise has not been particularly successful in the game world outside of Alien: Isolation. Not that there haven’t been any good books, but there haven’t been many hits. Hopefully, Dark Descent will become yet another smash hit for the series.
Aliens: Dark Descent will release on June 20, 2023, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
