Capcom confirmed at Sony‘s State of Play webcast on Thursday that a remake of Resident Evil 4 will indeed be released for consoles and PC on March 24, 2023, with content for PlayStation VR2. A new teaser showcased the game’s enhanced visuals, but the same unsettling mood that made Resident Evil 4 so popular when it was released in 2005.

Resident Evil 4
Capcom said on the PlayStation Blog that “this time around, the game is being created to attain state-of-the-art quality for a survival horror suited for 2023,” all while staying true to the original’s spirit. Those who are already acquainted with the series should have no trouble getting into the game, but we also want to give players a new experience. This is accomplished by reinventing the game’s plot while retaining its essential direction, upgrading the visuals to today’s standards, and bringing the gameplay up to date.
As far as I can tell from the official synopsis of the remake, the story remains almost unchanged: A former police officer and lone survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, is tasked with finding and rescuing the President of the United States abducted daughter in a small European town, six years after the events of Resident Evil 2. When Leon learns that the villagers are in grave danger, he attempts to save them.
The Resident Evil 4 remake was revealed for the PlayStation 5, but it will also be available for the PC and Xbox One S. The original release of Resident Evil 4 was a GameCube exclusive. A variety of other platforms got RE4 thereafter, including Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PS2, PS3, PS4, Wii, PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. In recent years, Capcom has produced remasters of the first two games in the Resident Evil series.
