  • Motion Blur Strength: This new option allows the player to adjust the strength of the motion blur effect when the character or camera is in motion. The default setting is a maximum of 5. This can be lowered to reduce the strength of the motion blur effect or set to 0 to turn it off completely.
  • Player Follow (Movement) and Player Follow (Attack): These new options let the player choose whether the camera will automatically follow Clive while moving and attacking respectively. Turning these settings off gives the player more control over the camera angle and position.
  • Camera Sensitivity (Horizontal) and Camera Sensitivity (Vertical): These options have been increased from a maximum of 10 to 20, allowing the player to adjust the camera movement speed more precisely.
  • New Controller Layouts: The update adds three new controller layouts: types D, E, and F. These layouts offer different button configurations for various actions such as attack, dodge, jump, etc.
  • Menu Stability and Text Issues: The update also corrects an issue that affected the stability of some menus, such as the map and inventory screens. It also fixes some text errors and typos in the game.
  • Hashtag #FF16: The update adds the hashtag #FF16 when sharing screenshots or video clips on Twitter or YouTube, making it easier for fans to find and share their experiences with the game.

Why Should You Download the Update?

The update improves the game’s performance and graphics and adds more options for customization and accessibility. The motion blur fix is especially helpful for players who experience motion sickness or prefer a clearer view of the game’s stunning visuals.

The camera controls also give more freedom and flexibility to the player’s preferences. The new controller layouts offer more choices for different play styles and comfort levels. The menu stability and text issues are minor but welcome improvements that enhance the game’s quality and polish.

The hashtag #FF16 is a fun feature that encourages social media engagement and community building among fans. If you are a fan of Final Fantasy 16 or planning to play it soon, you should download the update and enjoy the game’s latest enhancements!

What is Wrong with the Gameplay?

Final Fantasy XVI is a bold departure from the traditional turn-based or action RPG gameplay of the previous entries in the series. Instead, it adopts a character action style of combat that emphasizes fast-paced, reflex-driven, and combo-heavy action.

While this may appeal to some fans of games like Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, it also alienates others who prefer a more strategic and customizable approach to battles.

Some of the common criticisms of the gameplay are:

  • Lack of depth and variety: The combat system is relatively simple and repetitive, with only four basic attack buttons (light, heavy, dodge, and jump) and a few special abilities that are tied to Clive’s Eikon powers. There are no weapon or armor upgrades, skill trees or customization options, or party members or summons to assist in combat.
  • Poor camera and lock-on system: The camera often struggles to keep up with the fast-paced action, especially in tight spaces or against large enemies. The lock-on system is also unreliable and inconsistent, sometimes switching targets randomly or losing track of enemies altogether.
  • Unbalanced difficulty and progression: The game’s difficulty spikes and dips unpredictably, with some bosses too easy or hard for their respective stages. The game relies heavily on level scaling, meaning enemies will always match Clive’s level regardless of where he goes or what he does. This makes exploration and side quests feel less rewarding and more tedious.
  • Buggy and glitchy performance: The game suffers from frequent frame rate drops, texture pop-ins, clipping issues, and other technical problems that hamper the gameplay experience. Some players have also reported crashes, freezes and corrupted save files.

Does It Make a Difference?

The update addresses some gameplay issues that players have complained about, but it does not fundamentally change or improve the core gameplay mechanics. The motion blur option may help with motion sickness or clarity issues but does not affect the combat itself.

The camera options may give more flexibility and responsiveness to the player, but they do not solve the underlying problems with the camera and lock-on system. The controller layouts may offer more comfort and convenience to some players, but they do not add depth or variety to the combat system.

The update is a welcome improvement showing that Square Enix is listening to feedback and trying to fix some technical issues plaguing the game. However, it does not address the bigger concerns that many players have with the gameplay design and balance.

For those who enjoy Final Fantasy XVI’s gameplay as it is, the update may enhance their enjoyment even further. For those who are disappointed or frustrated with Final Fantasy XVI’s gameplay as it is, the update may not be enough to change their minds.
