Massachusetts: $499 Xbox Console Reported Stolen From Watertown Best Buy, Police Log Shows

An Xbox console priced at $499 was reportedly stolen from Best Buy in Watertown, Massachusetts, on October 26, 2026, according to an October 28 police roundup published by Watertown News using information supplied by the Watertown Police Department.

The log does not name a suspect or mention an arrest, charges or the console’s recovery. It also does not say which Xbox model was taken.

In the October 27 entry, Best Buy security reported finding a cut theft-detection device on a shelf. According to the roundup, staff reviewed surveillance video showing a man cutting the security wire off an Xbox console and taking it without paying the previous day.

Not the first gaming item taken from this store

The same store has turned up in the logs before. GameEmpress reviewed the Watertown News police logs published since June 2025. They include at least seven earlier entries in which gaming hardware, games or accessories were reported taken from Best Buy in Watertown. The review covered only the logs the outlet published, so it may not capture every incident.

DateReported takenValue reported in log
Oct. 26, 2026Xbox console$499
Oct. 1, 2026PlayStation 5 controller$75
Feb. 19, 2026PlayStation wireless controller$36

Nov. 20, 2025Two DualSense wireless controllers$375
Sept. 13, 2025Nine PlayStation 5 games$540
June 2, 2025Two pairs of Stealth Xbox headphones$160
June 2, 2025Two PlayStation controllers and charging cables$140

The highest reported value among the incidents listed above came just before Christmas last year. On December 23, 2025, Best Buy reported that a man placed three desktop gaming PCs on a cart and left the store without paying. The PCs were valued at $5,540 in total, according to a January police log. Police said at the time they were investigating.

The cited entries do not report charges in connection with these incidents. The February entry explicitly states that no charges were filed and that the juvenile who took the controller was turned over to his parents.

How the price compares

The $499 listed in the log sits below the $529 average that Americans paid for a new Xbox console from January through August 2026, according to Circana data that GameEmpress reported earlier this month. That is a market-wide average. It does not identify the model or value of the console taken in Watertown.
