Overwatch 2′ Is Finally Here: DDoS assaults were blamed for the connection problems that hampered Overwatch 2’s debut, which led to long wait times for players. Elden Ring was developed by Japanese studio FromSoftware, and as part of its push into PC and mobile, Sony has acquired a minority share in the company.

The arrival of Overwatch 2 has given Activision Blizzard, a US video game publisher, a lift in an otherwise dull year for new releases. Overwatch 2’s updates focus less on improving the game’s core mechanics than on adding new methods to make money off of the free-to-play model.

Overwatch 2 is finally here! 🔥

You can gain access to play it by watching a few streamers with Twitch Drops. Of course, we already added OW2 to ExitLag so no one needs to play with lag.

Overwatch 2′ Is Finally Here

Six years after its initial release, the original Overwatch is still widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time, a hero shooter with accessible difficulty designed around a utopian, multiethnic future. Both games feature two teams of uniquely created heroes vying for victory by eliminating their foes and working together to achieve a common goal.

However, widespread connection troubles on Tuesday’s debut were purportedly the result of a cyberattack. On Tuesday afternoon, Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra tweeted that the firm was facing “a huge DDoS assault” on its systems. Distributed denial-of-service attacks, or DDoS assaults, involve sending a flood of traffic to the servers hosting a business’s website in an effort to bring it down.

Players waiting in line to try out Overwatch 2 were a common sight during the game’s release. A number of gamers had already been tweeting about connection problems prior to the assault. Technical issues aside, the new Overwatch 2 is a free upgrade for the 60 million individuals who purchased the first Overwatch for as much as US$60, and it promises steadier content releases than its predecessor, which was a common concern among players.

Overwatch 2’s endearing appeal and inability to be put down will draw in new players even as the original’s fresh take on the genre has lost some of its lusters.

Activision Blizzard hopes that the success of Overwatch 2 will reverse the decline in interest in Blizzard Entertainment’s original titles and the post-pandemic decline in the video game industry as a whole. Apart from Diablo Immortal, a smartphone adaptation of its horror role-playing genre created in partnership with Chinese internet giant NetEase, which was introduced in 2022, Overwatch was the developer’s final major release in 2016.

The next installment in Activision’s massively popular Call of Duty series releases on October 28, but the series will take a two-year hiatus in 2023, leaving the sequel to Overwatch to fill the void. As the PlayStation 5 manufacturer battles for talent with deep-pocketed competitors and as industry deal-making heats up, Sony’s game company is looking at extra investment to reinforce its drive into PC and mobile, according to a top official.

“Further investments in areas that will boost the extension onto PC, on to mobile, and into live services, that’s absolutely a possibility for us,” said Hermen Hulst, CEO of PlayStation Studios. Sony has ambitious ambitions to distribute titles on PC and mobile and to provide live service games, which give continuously updated play, expanding the company’s reach beyond the single-player console games for which it is best known, such Spider-Man and God of War.

Sony‘s recent purchase of Bungie, developer of the multiplayer Destiny game, for $3.6 billion reflects the company’s dramatic reorientation away from its traditional PlayStation Studios business model. The acquisition of a minority position in Japanese developer FromSoftware, whose action role-playing game Elden Ring has sold over 16.6 million copies, is another example of the company’s investments.

The Uncharted film released this year made over US$400 million worldwide, and Sony’s Naughty Dog studio is developing a TV series based on The Last of Us franchise for HBO, set to premiere in 2023. CD Projekt, the largest Polish video game developer, has updated its strategy to include the development of a flood of new titles; the company now hopes to maintain three separate brands.

The firm, which has had a rough go of it since the faulty release of Cyberpunk 2077 in late 2020, said that it has begun conceptual work on a whole new project, unrelated to either the Cyberpunk or The Witcher series.
