Skyblivion’s modders must have become tired of being asked when their ten-plus year project would be finished (in contrast to Morroblivion, which is converting Morrowind into Oblivion, and Skywind, which is moving Morrowind into Skyrim’s engine). According to the most recent video, development on Skyblivion will wrap up around 2025. Which is to say, it’s likely to arrive before The Elder Scrolls 6 does.
According to the video’s description on YouTube, that’s 2025 “at the latest.” “It warns that “making games takes time,” doubling the time required for a volunteer project of that scale to the years it took a team of full-time DEVS to produce a AAA game. However, we’d like to announce today that Skyblivion is at a point where we can confidently promise a release in 2025.”
The goal of this video, as with all others for Skyblivion, is to increase the number of people willing to help with the game. It could be released before 2025 if there are enough of them. The summary adds, “We hope with your support to accomplish the final steps in completing our dream, maybe even beating our estimation.”
Skyrim has been out for more than ten years and shows in the teaser. Nonetheless, it thrills one to see famous Oblivion landmarks and people redone with a bit more glitz and glamour. The trailer showcases the white stone of the Imperial City as well as the view across the river from the tutorial dungeon beneath it, a meeting with the Dark Brotherhood, and various giants, goblins, undead, and dremora you may dimly recall killing in Oblivion while trying not to level up too quickly and break its scaling system.
In a comment section below the clip, one of the modders by the name of Rebelzize says, “I think we can beat our projections, but as per usual, it depends on how much spare time we can spend on our hobby project and how many people join up to help us following this video.” More information for prospective volunteers is on the Skyblivion volunteer page.
If you want to play Skyblivion when it comes out, you’ll need the Special Edition of Skyrim and Oblivion and all its downloadable content. Here are the top mods for the Special Edition of Skyrim that you can download and start using immediately.
Oblivion-in-Skyrim New Skyblivion Trailer
In a new clip, the modders adapting The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for Skyrim have revealed that they plan to release Skyblivion in 2025. Skyblivion’s volunteer developers will have been at work on it for 13 years by then. You have a better memory than mine if you recall your actions from 13 years ago.
Check out the slick new trailer for Skyblivion down below and decide for yourself if Emperor Uriel Septim VII sounds more like Patrick Stewart or Sean Connery. It’s about time I say that Oblivion is my least favorite out of the last three Elder Scrolls games. After seeing that teaser, I’m excited for Skyblivion, too.

While both the Skywind and Skyblivion projects attempt to port The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind into The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, they are being developed by different teams and should not be confused with the decades-long Tamriel Rebuilt mod. Tune up to the Elder Scrolls Renewal Project’s Twitch channel to watch the volunteer developers play Skyblivion and get a glimpse into the modders’ daily lives as they work on the project.
Since March of last year, when they released a big video titled “A HUGE UPDATE,” the Skyblivion team has been silent. That celebrated the tenth anniversary of the project’s inception and provided a glimpse, in just 15 minutes, of what will be available in the mod.

The new clip proves, the developers say, that “we can promise a 2025 release at the latest” for Skyblivion. While it may be too late for some to join the effort, those working on Skyblivion (which began in 2012) are still looking for volunteers.
