According to the “PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2022” report, the releases of both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 led the download rankings for paid and free-to-play titles for PS5 and PS4 around the world.
Although Call of Duty did not reach complete dominance by securing the top spot on every list, the franchise’s continued success is demonstrated by appearing at the top of every list (except VR games).
In North America, PS4 and PS5 versions of Modern Warfare 2 (Patch Notes) had the highest total downloads. It was the second most downloaded PS5 game in Europe, behind FIFA 23, and the third most downloaded PS4 game in Europe, behind FIFA 23 and Grand Theft Auto V.
In North America, FIFA 23 was the PS5’s seventh most downloaded game and the PS4’s tenth. While Fall Guys were the most downloaded free-to-play game in the U.S./Canada and EU, CoD nevertheless managed to crack the top three on both the PS5 and PS4 lists.
The year’s biggest games fought it out for the top spot in the PlayStation Store Downloads Charts of 2022.

Popular free-to-play titles from 2018 included Fortnite, MultiVersus, and Overwatch 2 Fan. It wasn’t only that multiplayer games ruled the year. God of War Ragnarök Streamer and Elden Ring were highly downloaded games on PS5.
While Minecraft Legends was one of the most popular PS4 downloads of the year (placing in the top four in both regions), it was conspicuously absent from the PS5 list as there is currently no official Minecraft release for the PS5.
Minecraft can be played on PS5, just like it can be played on PS4; however, not all PS4-exclusive features are present.
