This year, Blizzard is going all out for Valentine’s Day with Overwatch 2, releasing both a new limited-time game mode focused on Hanzo and an official (though not canon) Overwatch dating sim. The new PvP mode, aptly titled Love of Geometry, reintroduces Hanzo’s iconic Scatter Arrow skill from the first Overwatch.

On Love of Geometry’s release date, February 14th, two teams of four Hanzos will face off against one another while sporting the game’s new Cupid skin. In Love of Geometry, Hanzo’s Storm Arrow ability is replaced by Scatter Arrow, allowing the bowman to shoot an arrow that can split and ricochet off of other surfaces, increasing the chance of multiple kills. Blizzard also hints in Love of Geometry that players would be surprised by Hanzo’s Dragonstrike ultimate ability.
In 2018, Blizzard changed Hanzo’s Scatter Arrow ability with Storm Arrow in response to player feedback that the former ability seemed unfair and unpleasant (if you were the target). In 2021, Blizzard patched Experimental Mode on April 1st, bringing back Scatter Arrow for a limited time.
For those who fall in love with Hanzo’s Cupid skin in Love of Geometry, it is available permanently in the Overwatch 2 store. According to Blizzard, heart designs in the quiver and shoes integrate tech art for his wings to flutter as he surges through the air, adds heart VFX to every arrow shot, and include a ton of amusing sound effects for Cupid Hanzo.
