Like a Dragon: Ishin is an adaptation of the Japanese-only 2014 spin-off of the Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza).

GameSpot’s Like a Dragon: Ishin’s review rated it an 8 out of 10. Reviewer Michael Higham called Like A Dragon: Ishin a fascinating element of the RGG Studio library, praising the company for creatively mixing the characters and drama we know and love across the Yakuza legend with a historical piece set during a turbulent time in Japanese history.

Ishin eschews a few of the conventions that have been used to romanticize samurai in favor of its own style of storytelling, but it skirts the boundary between the two. Despite the time jump to Edo-era Japan, the series has maintained a distinct feel all along. Thankfully, we no longer have to petition Sega to release Ishin in Western markets.
