Following its impending destruction (again) during tonight’s The Big Bang live event, Fortnite’s original map will resurface (again) in 2024.
Epic Games made the statement on social media this afternoon, following the overwhelming success of the current “OG” season, which saw the trendy battle royale return to its roots.
“NGL, the OG season far exceeded our expectations,” Epic Games stated in a post on X, previously Twitter. “In fact, we’d want to bring it back… *displays the 2024 roadmap document* Meanwhile, meet you on the Battle Bus.”

Fortnite’s player involvement during the current OG mini-season has set new milestones for the six-year-old battle royale. Epic Games just stated that throughout November, 100 million gamers checked in to experience (or re-experience) the game’s original Island layout.
There had been conjecture – and some fan optimism – that Epic Games would reverse direction and preserve the original map as a standalone mode when the game returned after tonight’s major live event celebrations. We now know that will happen, albeit not quickly.
Following tonight’s The Big Bang live event – the game’s first in over a year – that commemorates the completion of the first season and offers a glimpse at many new experiences coming to the game in the near future, Fortnite is expected to have a big week planned.

A teaser image for the event shows what appears to be a Lego llama, as well as a racing wheel and musical instruments, which enthusiasts believe refer to three major new game elements expected to emerge in the coming days.
Given its success, it seems to reason that Epic Games will bring back the original map in the future while also allowing some of these new experiences, as well as the battle royale’s brand-new battlefield, to shine.
