Fable is a series of action role-playing video games that are available for the Xbox platform, as well as Microsoft Windows, macOS, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. In 2001, game developer Lionhead Studios released a teaser for their first game, Fable. Peter Molyneux, the lead designer and co-founder of Lionhead, stated that the game will “revolutionize the RPG” and that players would have “an experience like no other.” The Xbox version of Fable was made available for purchase on September 14th, 2004. Fable II, Fable III (2006–2012)
On October 24, 2008, Fable II became available on the Xbox 360 platform. It was also well received by the public and did well financially. It had a tie-in game called Fable II Pub Games that was released on the Xbox Live Arcade, and it also contained an interactive online flash game called Fable: A Hero’s Tale that allowed players to open a secret chest in the main game. The third installment of the Fable series, Fable III, was made available for the Xbox 360 on October 29, 2010, and for Microsoft Windows on March 17, 2011. In addition to that, there was a tie-in phone game for this game called Fable Coin Golf.

Fable Anniversary, a remake of the original game for the Xbox 360 that also included The Lost Chapters, was published to mixed reviews in February of 2014 by Lionhead Studios. In February 2014, Microsoft released the Fable Trilogy, a compilation for the Xbox 360 that includes the games Fable Anniversary, Fable II, and Fable III.
On March 4, 2014, Microsoft published their Solitaire Collection for personal computers, which included several card games with a fable-based theme.
Fable Legends is a game for the Xbox One that takes place during the “Age of Heroes” a significant amount of time before the events of the previous game. Lionhead Studios published a teaser trailer for the game in August 2013. The promotional video highlights the fact that the player will participate in the game alongside four other players and will have the option to either assume the role of the Hero or the Villain throughout the narrative. In March 2016, Microsoft decided to abandon the project, and Lionhead Studios went out of business not long after.
A Kickstarter effort for a free-to-play collectible card game called Fable Fortune was launched by developers who had previously worked at Lionhead in May of 2016. Prior to the collapse of the Lionhead studio, the game was in the process of being developed there. February 2018 saw the launch of the game for the Xbox One platform.

Reboot (2020–Present) (2020–Present)
There were rumblings in the gaming community in January 2018 that Playground Games was working on a new installment of the Fable series, Fable IV, and that the company was hiring 177 people to work on an open-world role-playing game. At the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, it was revealed that a new Fable was in the works.
The game was scheduled to be released on the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles as well as Microsoft Windows at a date that has not yet been divulged. It will operate on ForzaTech, the proprietary game engine that the Forza franchise has developed over the years. It was decided that Eidos-Montréal would become a co-developer on the project in November of 2022.
