Update (October 2026): Escape From Tarkov left beta with version 1.0 on November 15, 2025, launching on Steam the same day. A console version is now officially planned, according to Battlestate’s Nikita Buyanov, but no platforms or date have been given. As of October 2026, Steam lists the game for Windows only. Our original January 2023 article follows, corrected.

Escape From Tarkov was a PC-only game throughout its long beta, or test phase. Many players want to know two things: will it ever come to Xbox or PlayStation, and would its complex controls even work on a controller?

Is Escape From Tarkov coming to consoles?

Yes, according to Battlestate. The answer has gone back and forth for years, though:

  • 2020: Former Battlestate developer Pavel Dyatlov said in an interview that a console version was a possibility, but not before the game launched on Steam, according to Game Rant.
  • April 2025: Buyanov joked that a console version would come only after a Game Boy release. Many fans read that as a no.
  • A few months later: In a video recapping Battlestate’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 appearance, Buyanov said Tarkov will come to consoles after all, Game Rant reported.

Is there a console release date?

No date had been given in the reports we checked. When the console version was confirmed in October 2025, Game Rant noted that it had no release date or window. Battlestate also did not name specific platforms.

One thing has changed. The main condition Dyatlov once set has now been met, since the PC game reached its full 1.0 release and Steam in November 2025.

Would Tarkov work on a controller?

This is the bigger question for many players. Tarkov uses a large number of keyboard inputs for movement, inventory management and weapon handling.

Fitting all of that onto a controller without simplifying the game would be a real design challenge. And a simplified Tarkov would lose much of what makes it distinctive.

Buyanov says Battlestate does not plan to simplify it. In a December 2025 interview with Insider Gaming, he said the console version would have no aim assist, the feature that nudges a controller player’s aim toward targets, and no simplified features.

He said it would be the same game, optimized for current-generation consoles. How the studio will map every input to a controller is still unclear.

Where can you buy it now?

For now, Escape From Tarkov is a PC game. You can buy it through the official Battlestate Games website, where it is sold in several editions.

It is also on Steam, which lists Windows 10 as the minimum operating system.
