Dying Light 2 Gameplay
Stay Human: Dying Light is an open-world action role-playing survival horror game set during a zombie apocalypse. Aiden Caldwell (Jonah Scott’s voice), 22 years after the events of Dying Light, starring in this sequel. He is armed with a variety of parkour abilities. To go across town rapidly, players can do actions like wall running, sliding, jumping off of edges, and climbing ledges. Over 3,000 parkour animations were confirmed, making for a more realistic free-running experience.
A grappling hook and a paraglider are two more useful tools for getting about the city. Aiden can also employ the zombies as a safety net. The majority of combat in the game is accomplished with close-range weaponry. Combat use will reduce the effectiveness of the melee weapons over time. Additionally, spears, crossbows, and shotguns can all be employed for their long-range.
You can use the blueprints and components you find when disassembling weapons to make new ones. Aiden, thanks to his affliction, can now use superhuman abilities. Several new zombies have been included. Similar to the original game, the zombies move slowly in broad daylight but ramp up in hostility once night falls.
Players can either stay on rooftops until late afternoon, when zombies are less likely to be out and about due to the onset of dusk, or they can use this time to their advantage by venturing inside buildings in search of useful things, where they will be secure from daylight.
Villedor, a huge European city, serves as the game’s setting. Featuring a geographical size four times that of the original game, this expansion divides the world into seven sections, each with its own unique features and destinations. Players can create new goods and weapons by scavenging the city for scrap and resources.
Activating windmills is a fun way to encourage settlement building among survivors and tradespeople. While wandering the city, the player can also discover inhibitors to restore health or boost stamina for Aiden. The player interacts with several groups and makes choices that affect the overall plot and how the game’s non-playable characters feel about Aiden.
As a result, the player can make one group prosperous while annihilating another. It’s encouraged that players finish numerous playthroughs because different choices will unlock or close off different parts of the city. A four-player co-op mode returns from the previous installment.
Dying Light 2 Story
No survivors from the zombie outbreak in Harran have been found. But the GRE succeeds in creating a vaccine against the Harran Virus, which puts an end to the potential for a widespread outbreak of zombies. Sadly, despite assurances that they would end all viral research, the GRE secretly maintained its experiments.
In 2021, a mutant strain of the virus dubbed Tachytransmissive Harran Virus (THV) escapes from a GRE lab and kicks off a second pandemic that spreads even faster than the first, quickly sweeping across the entire planet in an event called “The Fall.” The new strain of THV is resistant to the vaccine and Antizin, but can be neutralized by exposure to UV light.
Fifteen years after the Fall, in the year 2036, most of the world’s population has been eradicated and human civilization has been reduced to a handful of scattered human settlements, with the fictional European city of Villedor being one of the few known remaining towns on Earth.
Villedor, which had been quarantined by the GRE, was spared the brunt of the pandemic since its quarantine walls also kept the hordes of sick out of the city. However, the city is divided into multiple groups, with the military Peacekeepers on one side, the autonomous Survivors on the other, and the violent Renegades on a third.
Aiden Caldwell, our hero, is a Pilgrim, someone who is bold enough to venture between populated areas. The missing Mia inspires him to go out for Villedor in quest of her.
Dying Light 2 Development
Techland creates and publishes Dying Light 2: Stay Human. Their goal was to make people feel sad and scared. Furthermore, they prove that the human race nearly perished. The team added multiple levels to the City to emphasize the precariousness of human life, with temporary buildings constructed over the ruins of the previous ones to house humans and permanent buildings and concrete ground occupied by enormous swarms of zombies.
The City was built with the use of an in-house tool called CityBuilder, which allows for the quick assembly of features like ledges and windows with minimum supervision from the level designers. Thanks to modern tools, the city’s layout could be rapidly developed and altered. An original engine, C-Engine, was built by the team as well to run the game.
When opposed to its predecessor, the game’s focus was noticeably more on storytelling. The team enlisted Chris Avellone’s services to craft a narrative that adapts to the player’s actions. The development team believed that they had created a free and open metropolis, but they wished that the story had the same degree of freedom.
As Avellone put it, the game is a “narrative sandbox” in which all of your decisions will have “real” repercussions. A shift in the game’s environment is a direct result of player decisions. As opposed to the lighter tone of the original game, this one takes its story quite seriously. The team also drew influence from real-world concerns and political philosophies to create a setting that seems genuine and convincing, while discarding ridiculous gameplay ideas. Further, Ciszewski stated that “at least 25% of the content” will be lost in each playthrough.
Story themes like treachery, infidelity, and intrigue are explored within the context of a new, modern “Dark Ages” for humanity. The team had faith in the game’s mechanics but thought they required outside assistance with the story’s concept. Consequently, Avellone and other writers from the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt were brought on board.
Non-playable characters are given greater attention and the player is prompted to be more aware of their existence and needs by the story’s design. Instead of being the game’s primary antagonists as they were in the previous game, zombies here serve as a plot device, applying pressure to various NPCs in order to generate compelling story beats and ideas.
The crew was influenced by works like The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, where real humans are just as dangerous as zombies, hence this game incorporates hostile human foes more prominently than the original game. As part of the game’s development, the team created a cycle for the zombies’ existence.
Virals are the name given to newly infected zombies, and they are a swift and lethal enemy with some semblance of humanity still intact despite their name. Biters are “normal zombies,” the result of this transformation. Degenerates are flesh-eating zombies created when Biters are subjected to UV radiation for an extended period of time.
Techland and Chris Avellone mutually decided to end his involvement with Dying Light 2 after he was accused of sexual misconduct in June 2020. Since then, he has filed a libel claim in which he categorically rejects any suggestion of sexual impropriety and labels the charges as “malicious and false.”
