Even though the PlayStation 5 is less than two years old, it still has many amazing games. PS5 shooters, sports games, RPGs, platformers, and open-world adventures. “Open world” isn’t a genre, but millions of players adore it. Open-world games are widespread now, so competition for your attention is fiercer. With God of War Ragnarok coming, there will be more to play.
PS5 has several great open-world games, though. One lets you explore the galaxy, while others focus on horror or history. Here are the top open-world PS5 games.

Best Open World Games On PS5
Forbidden Horizon
Horizon Forbidden West is a top open-world adventure. Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is set in a post-apocalyptic world with machines. Forbidden West seems like a sequel, improving gameplay, plot, and experience while adding new mechanics.
You can glide and swim in this game. The open environment comprises primary quests, side missions, and other activities. Forbidden West has stunning character models and an equally impressive-looking world. We rate this as one of the best PS5 games to date.
Elden Ring reimagines a classic recipe. Elden Ring’s open setting is a pleasant change of pace from the tried-and-true Souls titles. The game’s expansive environment is impactful after dozens of hours of play. It introduces a powerful feeling of exploration, building on previous Souls games but heightening the stakes.
Elden Ring is massive and allows players to complete areas in any sequence, leading to varied experiences. This game has several easy-to-miss moments or experiences, making it fascinating to discuss with other players. It reminds us of conversing about our favorite games on the playground and learning their secrets. This is one of the best games, not simply the best PS5 open-world game.
Miles Morales, Spider-Man
Following one of the best (if not the best) superhero games was undoubtedly difficult. Miles Morales is even better than the original Marvel Spider-Man. Regardless of your preference, this standalone game is excellent.
The story, writing, performances, and portrayal of people of color are all excellent, increasing the bar for the future. The game’s fast-paced, engaging gameplay is its glue. Thanks to Miles’ talents, swinging around New York City has never felt better. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes about eight hours to complete, making it a digestible but thorough experience.
Souls Demon
Demon’s Souls is brilliant and influential but hasn’t aged well. Bluepoint Games 2020 remake is essential because it keeps the original’s integrity (and soul) while upgrading its aesthetics and playability. The remake is a near-exact replica of the original, which is exciting if you played the 2009 game.
Its design is linear, yet its labyrinthine nature makes it feel open-ended. Whether it’s an open universe is questionable, but each level is huge. Either way, it’s a great game. Demon’s Souls is known for its difficulty. However, the remake makes it easier to play. It feels like Demon’s Souls, but without numerous PS3 constraints. This PS5 launch release is a must-play for Souls and action RPG enthusiasts.
Sky
No Man’s Sky is an “open-world” game. It has 18 quintillion explorable worlds. No two planets are alike. No Man’s Sky was one of the worst games of the last generation. Hello, Games has delivered on its promises since its 2016 launch. The vanilla version of No Man’s Sky is a sight to behold. Visuals, multiplayer, base-building, and exploration have been updated. Every update and PS5 upgrade are free for PS4 owners. This game’s design is amazing.
A.C. Valhalla
Valhalla builds on Odyssey’s fantastic foundation but focuses on Vikings and Norse mythology. Valhalla features a gorgeous world, great combat, and an epic plot. The game doubles down on RPG mechanics, offering plenty of character-building freedom. This eliminates linearity, making each playthrough unique. Longtime Assassin’s Creed fans may not appreciate this, but RPG enthusiasts will. Ubisoft has improved Valhalla since its launch, so now is a good time to play.
Director’s Cut: Ghost Of Tsushima
Sony’s first-party studios set the bar high with open-world games like Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn, and God of War. Ghost of Tsushima’s open-world design exceeded expectations. This game’s size is something we like.
You can finish the main story in a reasonable length of time, which is nice. It has deep and thrilling combat, attractive characters, and amazing graphics. Director’s Cut on PS5 has more material and quality-of-life improvements. Ghost of Tsushima is a wonderful open-world PlayStation game. Period.
B3
Borderlands 3 is the third game in the series (not including the prequel). This entry has over-the-top weapons, explosions, and personalities. Borderlands has always combined RPG and FPS elements, and this game is no different.
You start exploring a big open globe and finish up on other worlds, but you can’t roam the galaxy like in No Man’s Sky. Each planet feels and looks different, breaking up the boredom of traversing the same area over and over. Borderlands 3 encourages cooperative play, so you won’t be alone.

The ESO
Elder Scrolls and MMOs are a perfect fit. The Elder Scrolls Online makes completing tasks and exploring Tamriel with others much more satisfying. You can design and customize your own character’s qualities and skills, just as in Skyrim.
The best part is being able to tackle tasks with pals. You can play this game alone if you’re online. The Elder Scrolls Online no longer requires a monthly subscription, making it easier to try. PS5 supports 4K at 30fps.
Evil Village
Resident Evil Village is an open-world game with big but not overwhelming regions to explore. The settlement is vast and contains objects concealed everywhere, making it feel open, and world-like. The village is presented from a first-person view, heightening the dread and immersion, complete with terrifying monsters to kill (or run away from).
Explore the world and castle for currency to enhance your weaponry. Even if survival horror isn’t your thing, give Village a shot. It contains exciting boss fights and memorable personalities. Resident Evil Village encourages exploration and activity while remaining terrifying.
Rising Fenyx
Immortals Fenyx Rising doesn’t get enough recognition (formally known as Gods and Monsters). This PS5 launch title explores Greek mythology from the perspectives of Zeus, Prometheus, and Fenyx. You customize Fenyx in it. You may know what to anticipate from an open-world Ubisoft game. Map symbols indicate objectives to achieve. Like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, your character strengthens as you complete tasks. Fenyx Rising has a bright graphical style and godlike skills. This game is well-written, with a humorous, witty tone. It pulls from Breath of the Wild and Ubisoft’s open-world games, yet it stands on its own.
Dragon Yakuza
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a video game that immerses you in its world. It’s simple to err in one direction or the other. Like a Dragon has a turn-based battle system instead of the series’ beat ’em up approach. This makes it feel more like a JRPG. One of the best video game casts ever. These characters are well-developed, with compelling backstories. This adds cliffhangers, twists, and turns to the plot, making it more effective. The game’s end is an emotional event that will bring tears.
Cry 6
Ubisoft has refined the open-world idea, producing enormous settings with enough to do. Far Cry 6 is a greatest hits compilation with a wild political tale, plenty of action, and areas of interest to visit. Yara is modeled on Cuba, with gorgeous beaches, nature, and a thickly populated metropolis. Far Cry 6’s strength is that it’s both serious and amusing. In one scene, you’ll face “El Presidente” Antón Castillo, the game’s antagonist, and in the next, you’ll use Chorizo, a deadly Weiner dog with wheels for legs. When it nails this dichotomy, it’s fantastic.
