Duryea Police Seek Tips After PlayStation 5 Stolen From Main Street Apartment

Police in Duryea, Pennsylvania, are asking for the public’s help following a residential burglary at a Main Street apartment in which a PlayStation 5 console was stolen from a newly relocated family, according to a report from the Times Leader citing investigators.

PlayStation 5 Discovered Missing Among Unpacked Moving Boxes

Officers were called to the 100 block of Main Street around 11:22 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, for a reported burglary at a second-floor apartment. The resident who contacted authorities explained that she was in the process of moving to the area from New York and had moved personal belongings into the residence on Monday, Aug. 31.

When the family returned to the unit on Friday, Sept. 4, her son discovered that his PlayStation 5 console was missing and that several boxes throughout the apartment had been gone through by an intruder.

Police Investigate Second-Story Window Entry

Investigators believe whoever broke into the apartment may have gained entry through a second-story window at the front of the building. With high-value gaming hardware continuing to hold substantial resale value, current-generation systems remain prime targets for opportunistic thefts.

The Duryea break-in follows other recent console-related crimes reported this week, including the arrest of two suspects after PlayStation consoles were stolen from a Redlands GameStop in Southern California. The steady demand across Sony’s PlayStation 5 hardware cycle and major upcoming releases on the Fall 2026 gaming calendar have kept current-gen consoles highly sought after on secondary marketplaces.

Investigators Seek Tips and Nearby Surveillance Footage

Duryea police are asking anyone who observed suspicious activity in the area — particularly anyone who saw an individual entering or exiting a second-story window at the building — to come forward. Investigators are also asking nearby residents and businesses with surveillance cameras to review footage that could assist the inquiry.
