The physical release of Redfall on consoles by Arkane is misunderstood according to a cryptic remark on Bethesda’s support website.
Several people were confused about the physical release of Arkane’s Redfall, believing it would not come with a disc. Concerns were raised when it was revealed that even single-player sessions of Redfall will require an internet connection. Concerns about the game’s longevity once its initial excitement dies down are understandable, and they would have been amplified if physical copies were to include download codes.
Redfall has been a topic of discussion regarding the archiving of video games, despite its ability to bring components of immersive simulators to an open environment. Although multiplayer is emphasized, many would-be players have been put off by the game’s persistent online necessity in its single-player modes.
An Xbox Series X/S and PC player can use Xbox Play Anywhere tickets included with physical copies of Redfall, which led to some consternation when a ResetEra member noted the same on Bethesda’s support site for the game.
Upon realizing the error, Bethesda issued a message on Twitter explaining that the CD would come with the standard retail version of Redfall for Xbox but not the PC version. Although some retail copies of Redfall will not include a disc, the original description on the game’s page did not clarify that some documents would also have a code.

Since that Redfall is slated to be a vast Xbox exclusive in the first half of 2023, Microsoft and Bethesda will undoubtedly want to ensure that the game’s launch goes off without a hitch. Redfall doesn’t need concerns about its longevity to be stoked by the always-online need and uncertainty surrounding physical releases.
If everything goes according to plan, it may be a smash hit for Microsoft, marking the beginning of a great year that started with the fun Hi-Fi Rush and will continue with highly anticipated games like Starfield.
Redfall’s novel use of vampires as enemies in an open-world Shooter, along with Arkane’s history of crafting intricate landscapes full of secrets (as seen in Dishonored and Prey), gives the label a solid footing to build upon.
On May 2nd, 2023, Redfall will be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
