With 12 million purchases over eight years, Cities: Skylines is getting a follow-up. In 2023, Cities: Skylines II, from Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive, will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms.

Expanded mechanics and toolkits will be available in the new simulator, and extensive modding features will be supported for the current fanbase. Players in Cities: Skylines 2 will be able to develop sleepy towns into thriving metropolises before implementing intricate economic, transportation, and building systems.

In 2015, the first iteration of Cities: Skylines was released, filling the hole left by EA’s unsuccessful Sim City relaunch. Since its debut, Colossal Order has continuously improved its city-builder:

The sim has had a dozen primary gameplay expansions that have wholly redesigned its systems for business, education, parks, and airports, in addition to downloadable content. The game’s visuals have dramatically changed since it first launched in 2015.

Cities: Skylines’ success is mainly due to mods and user-contributed items. On Steam, there are hundreds of thousands of free user-created components for the game. Its most well-liked mods have over 2 million subscribers while enhancing key gameplay elements like road construction and traffic management.

Virtual (and natural!) city planners share advice and show buildings over hundreds of episodes in a lively YouTube community developed around the game. More than 5.5 million new gamers joined the game in 2022 alone.

“Fully realized transit and economy systems,” “a plethora of construction and customization choices,” and “advanced modding capabilities,” according to Colossal Order, are some of the features of Cities:

Engadget says about the game on Twitter,” ‘Cities: Skylines II‘ heads to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.“
