The Lunar New Year is quickly approaching, and Blizzard is preparing to celebrate alongside the rest of the world with a new event in Overwatch 2. And in the 2024 iteration, a slew of new features are on their way to change things up.
From returning game modes to new limited-time skins and cosmetics, there are quite a few things for gamers to look forward to over the Lunar New Year.
Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year 2024 Event Date
The Overwatch 2 2024 Lunar New Year event begins on January 31 and runs until February 19, the final day of Season 8.

The event’s eleven days should provide players with enough time to accomplish the challenges and obtain the desired skins, as well as to explore the returning game types.
Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year 2024 Event Game Modes
The Lunar New Year event in 2024 will feature a familiar game mode for Overwatch fans, as well as the return and small update of Prop Hunt for the seasonal event.
Prop Hunt (also known as Mischief and Magic) debuted in Season 5 and became a huge success for Blizzard. And it appears that the developers are bringing it back, although this time in the Lijiang Night Market rather than Blizzard World.
Much of the action remains the same in Prop Hunt, with Knight Genji tasked with finding all Kiriko hiding across the landscape, but this time, the prop selections will be centered around Lijiang’s Lunar New Year festival.
Other returning game modes include Capture the Flag and its quicker counterpart, CTF Blitz. Bounty Hunter, the free-for-all Deathmatch game mode, will also return.
Overwatch 2 Lunar New Year 2024 Event: Skins and Cosmetics
As with any Overwatch in-game event, players can collect a variety of skins and cosmetics from the shop.
Players that check-in from January 31 to February 19 will receive a Year of the Dragon player symbol for free.
Players can also purchase Lunar New Year-themed skins in the shop. The skins currently for sale are listed below.
