With the colossal Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption IPs under its belt, it’s easy to overlook Rockstar Games’ other outstanding properties, such as the subject of today’s conversation, Max Payne.
The first Max Payne game was released in 2001 for PC, PlayStation 2, and the original Xbox. There was also a Game Boy Advance port in 2003, although the less said about it, the better.
Remedy Entertainment developed Alan Wake 2‘s Max Payne and its 2003 sequel until Rockstar Games took over production duties with Max Payne 3 in 2012. Max Payne is a genuinely renowned figure in the world of video games, played by actor James McCaffrey, who died recently at the age of 65.
Max Payne RTX Remix Remaster Mod
Rockstar Games announced in April 2022 that it would be collaborating with Remedy Entertainment to rebuild the first two Max Payne games. Following the announcement, there was a radio silence on the remakes.
Nonetheless, Rockstar Games said in February 2023 that the Max Payne remakes were still on track for a new-gen release, and it went into full production later that year.
We can still play both Max Payne and Max Payne 2 on contemporary Xbox and PlayStation consoles until those remakes arrive. On PC, however, gamers may enjoy upgraded old titles owing to skilled modders, and the original Max Payne game is no exception.
As reported by DSOGaming, a modder titled ‘Slasks Psykbunker’ is working on an enhancement of the original game in the NYC detective series with ‘Max Payne Remixed’. Even better, a demo of the mod has been created and is now available for free download on moddb.com.
‘Max Payne Remixed’ fully utilizes PBR (Physically Based Rendering) and ray tracing techniques, and the results are stunning. The original Max Payne’s models and assets have also been remastered.
Furthermore, DSOGaming states that this patch supports Nvidia’s DLSS, which means that if you have an RTX GPU, this classic game will perform better even with the mod’s demands activated.
The release date for the Max Payne and Max Payne 2 remakes has yet to be disclosed, but we do know that they will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
