HoYoverse has finally revealed the 4.0 version of Genshin Impact, which includes the Fontaine nation. They confirmed the release date and provided details about the upcoming update’s content.
The exciting news was shared during an hour-long Genshin Impact 4.0 Special Program event, which was live-streamed on YouTube and Twitch.
The original version of Genshin Impact, released in September 2020, allowed players to explore two vast nations: Mondstadt and Liyue, drawing inspiration from Germany and China, respectively.
Since then, HoYoverse has been consistently adding one new region to the game each year, always during the summer. The most recent update, August 24, 2022, expanded the game’s map with the Sumeru region.
Just under a year after its release, Genshin Impact is ready to unveil the Fontaine nation on August 16, as confirmed by HoYoverse. The Chinese developer has also released an extended trailer for the upcoming update, showcasing a blend of gameplay and story cutscenes that will unfold in the “Nation of Justice,” the residence of Genshin Impact’s hydro Archon.
The 4.0 version of the game introduces the first three playable characters, who are all sisters: Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet. Lyney, the eldest sibling, is a five-star archer and Pyro user capable of wielding fireworks and transforming into a Grin-Malkin Cat during combat.
Lynette, the middle child, is a four-star Anemo sword wielder and will be available through an upcoming seasonal event for Genshin Impact players who reach Adventure Rank 25. Freminet, a four-star character, excels in using claymores and freezing Cryo attacks.
During the 4.0 Special Program event, players got a sneak peek at two new bosses: Icewind Suite, a clockwork-like robot that evades attacks with its agile moves, and Emperor of Fire and Iron, a giant crab with powerful Pyro abilities capable of burning everything nearby.
Notably, the 4.0 version will introduce the first-ever underwater adventure in the game, taking place in the France-inspired nation of Fontaine, surrounded by water.
The update will also include various quality-of-life features across all platforms and improvements to loading times and graphics on PlayStation consoles. While the new region will be accessible to anyone completing the early-game Mondstadt quests, the developers strongly advise players to fulfill the story requirements for entering Fontaine.
