An old RPG that was first released on Sony’s original PlayStation console back in 1999 has recently received a significant update. Numerous remakes and remasters of beloved PS1 games have begun to appear in recent years, bringing them to new platforms.

One of those games was Chrono Cross, which was reissued in 2022 as Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition on newer hardware. And while the initial release of this port of the well-known game was quite shoddy, Square Enix has since released a sizable new patch for the game that includes a brand-new feature.

The most recent update for Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, which Square Enix released this week, now supports 60fps (frames per second) play. When this remaster first came out last year, many fans were hoping to see 60 frames per second support for Chrono Cross, which is the first time it has ever received this treatment.

Square Enix heard the cries of the fans and decided to heed their requests, even though it took almost a full year for the feature to be created. The biggest new feature of this update for Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is 60 frames per second support, but there are other changes made to the game.

Pip’s stats have since been modified by Square Enix, especially with regard to leveling. This fix is much appreciated because it addresses yet another frequent issue that many players of Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition have been raising.

Chrono Cross shared a Tweet about the update:

“Chrono Cross is an RPG that transcends time and space, unfolding across two interlinked parallel worlds. With over 40 party members to meet, people and dimensions will intertwine in this epic drama about the planet itself,” says the official description of The Radical Dreamers Edition. “The 3D models have been upgraded to HD, new illustrations have been added, and all kinds of new features are now included.”
