The Final Fantasy 7: Spinoff Saga Ends In Shutdown!

The Final Fantasy 7: This Thursday, Square Enix officially ended the service for Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier, putting a stop to one of the Final Fantasy 7 spinoff titles. After its release in November 2021, the mobile Final Fantasy game only lasted a year and a few months.

Square Enix had previously stated that the game didn’t measure up to the Final Fantasy experience the publisher had wanted to provide. For those who haven’t played the game all that much, The First Soldier was a free-to-play battle royale game set in the Final Fantasy universe.

Players had to command SOLDIERS to combine parts of Final Fantasy with the battle royale method in this game, which was set before the events of Final Fantasy 7. Some people found the game appealing, but there didn’t seem to be enough players.

Less than a year after The First Soldier’s release, in October 2022, Square Enix announced that service for the game would end on January 11, 2023.

Square Enix stated that it was unable to fulfill the intended experience it planned to accomplish with The First Soldier in a statement to gamers explaining the logic behind the game’s conclusion.

In October, Square Enix announced that it would be ending service for Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. “Despite all our efforts to bring you regular updates with new and exciting content, we haven’t been able to deliver the experience that we were hoping to and that you all deserve,” the company said.

Responses from players to a reminder of the end of service sent out on January 11 echoed common sentiments expressed whenever games cease so abruptly. Many participants expressed regret that the game ended so quickly in the comments and noted its potential.

The service has ended on January 11th, 2023.

Some people were a little harsher and claimed that the outcome of the game was predetermined due to the manner that it was handled and the experience that existed from the start.

This year, according to Square Enix, is when the second installment of the remake will be released for those who are eager for more Final Fantasy 7 adventures. There will be a third installment as well, although the release date for that one is still unknown.
