GTA 6 Will Let Jason and Lucia Listen to Radio and Podcasts on Foot

For the first time in Grand Theft Auto, the music doesn’t stop when you step out of the car. Rockstar Games said on Oct. 8 that Jason and Lucia, the two leads of Grand Theft Auto VI, will be able to listen to the radio on foot, using headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones.
The same Rockstar Newswire post confirms another first for the series: on-demand podcasts. It also names six of the GTA 6 radio stations players will hear across Leonida when the game launches on Nov. 19.
Radio leaves the car
In earlier GTA games, radio belonged to vehicles. You got in, the station came on, and it cut out the moment you climbed out. Grand Theft Auto VI changes that. Rockstar says both radio and podcasts will be “available to listen to in vehicles and on foot through newly introduced headphones and earbuds connected to their smartphones.”
The podcasts are separate from the regular stations. Rockstar describes them as “a series of on-demand podcasts for Jason and Lucia to experience beyond Leonida’s terrestrial radio.” It has not said how many there will be or what they cover.
Rockstar also calls the lineup “the biggest and widest-ranging selection of in-game radio yet,” with stations running from classic rock to talk radio.
The six stations Rockstar has named
- Cocoteo FM: modern Latin music, from bachata and merengue to dembow and reggaeton, hosted by El Martillo and La Gata.
- Back Country Radio: country music from hosts MW and Delta Dawne, with reports from Mud Dog Mike on his airboat in the Grassrivers.
- AfroBank FM: African music old and new, including amapiano and 3-step, hosted by Burna and Palmsy.
- The Chamber 106.6: decades of metal, hosted by DJ Kerry and DJ Tom.
- Flash FM: pop music with Robyn and Alex. Rockstar calls the station “the Vice City institution.”
- Dirty South Classics: regional rap and hip-hop classics from Trick and Trina.
Previews of all six stations are on the music page of the official GTA VI site. Rockstar used only the hosts’ in-game names in its announcement and did not list the songs on each station.
A soundtrack album with 34 original songs
The radio news follows Rockstar’s Sept. 17 announcement of Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, which arrives on Nov. 19, the same day as the game. According to Rockstar, it features 34 original tracks from a “genre-defying roster of artists.” Fans can pre-save it now or pre-order it on vinyl and CD.
Rockstar says more is coming, including details on the game’s dynamic score and more singles from the album.
Six weeks to launch
Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on Nov. 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar’s game page. A PC version has not been announced. PS4 owners will need new hardware, which we covered in our guide to upgrading from PS4 to PS5 before GTA 6.
The headphones fit a pattern in what Rockstar has shown so far: more of Leonida works away from the main missions. The August GTA 6 Extended Look showed fast switching between Jason and Lucia, and Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson has said players can rob “pretty much anything”. Now the soundtrack can follow them out of the car, too.
