God Of War Ragnarok The Greatest Release In The Series Ever: According to market researchers at GfK, God of War: Ragnarok is off to a roaring start in the United Kingdom. The company predicts that it will become the fourth installment in the series to top the UK boxed charts.

The original game came out in July 2005 for the PS3 and had a disappointing No. 5 launch, one of only two occasions that a primary God of War title didn’t launch at No. 1. Two years later, in May 2007 (also on PS2 and after the PS3’s release), the second game in the series also achieved No. 1. God of War 3, released in March 2010 for the PlayStation 3, marked the series’ transition to Sony’s console.

Three years later, Crystal Dynamics’ reboot of Tomb Raider pushed aside the fourth flagship title, God of War Ascension. And with 2018’s God of War revival for PlayStation 4, the series reached new heights.
GfK CEO Dorian Bloch told GamesIndustry.biz, “It became the best-seller at that time in terms of week one sales and also lifetime sales for this franchise.” In terms of sales and downloads on Sony platforms, God of War was the fifth best-selling game of 2018.
FIFA 19, Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and Marvel’s Spider-Man were the only other PS4 titles that year that sold more copies than God of War.
As we approach the release of God of War: Ragnarok, we can safely predict that it will break records for boxed sales in the UK, becoming the most successful launch of any God of War game to date.

Bloch predicts that God of War: Ragnarok will have a number one launch and is the first cross-gen product in the franchise. Sales on day one of the physical release were higher than those of any other game in the series had been in the first week after its release.
Bloch also notes that this week, the God of War hardware combo has accounted for 55 percent of PS5 purchases.
