Fandom has bought the entertainment industry’s leading brands, including Gamespot, tv guide, and Metacritic.
This agreement expands the reach and engagement of the brand’s fan base while boosting affiliate sales and providing 360-degree promotional opportunities for advertisers. After this update, Fandom will be the fourteenth most popular ad-supported website in the United States.
San Francisco, CA and Charlotte, NC – October 3, 2022 – Fansites GameSpot, Metacritic, TV Guide, GameFAQs, Giant Bomb, Cord Cutters News, and Comic Vine have been acquired by Fandom, the largest fan platform in the world.
With these 46 million monthly active users, Fandom is furthering its strategic aim to be the fan’s first choice in community and experience by combining its 300 million monthly active users, 250 thousand wiki communities, and 40 million pages of content. The deal’s monetary terms were kept secret.
Through this partnership, Fandom will be able to serve better its global community of entertainment and gaming enthusiasts and its business partners. Reference, community, trends, ratings, reviews, news, and commerce are some areas where the new unified platform will boost user involvement.
Fandom’s 360 programs for its advertising partners, such as game publishers, studios, and streaming services, will be expanded, and the data and insights within FanDNA, Fandom’s proprietary data platform, will be enhanced, thanks to the integration of these gaming, movie, and TV platforms.
The acquisition will also boost revenue for Fanatical, Fandom’s gaming commerce division, and its affiliate and commerce initiatives. We’re thrilled to welcome such established names to the Fandom platform, allowing us to reach a wider audience and create more engaging experiences for our advertisers, sponsors, and consumers.
According to Perkins Miller, CEO of Fandom, “their trusted insights, ratings, and content will give us a one-stop shop for fans across their entertainment and gaming journey.” “These platforms will enhance our FanDNA data offering, providing sentiment and intent signals that will help us enhance the consumer experience and the effectiveness of our commerce and advertising businesses,” the company said.
The Fandom family is getting bigger! We’re proud to announce some big names in entertainment and gaming are joining our team, including @GameSpot, @TVGuide, and @Metacritic,

A new era has begun for Red Ventures and Fandom, and the company’s chief strategy officer, Christina Miller, is thrilled about what’s to come. While Red Ventures continues to focus on unlocking the next phase of growth and evolution of its strong stable of decision-making brands, Fandom is confident that the brands and their teams will be well-equipped to continue empowering and connecting gaming and entertainment audiences around the globe under Fandom’s leadership.
This partnership furthers Fandom’s spread across the fan ecosystem and contributes to the company’s upward growth trend. Adding ScreenJunkies’ entertainment and news content was a significant reason Fandom purchased the site in 2018.
In 2019, the company purchased Curse Media, which merged the best gaming wikis worldwide with advanced digital gaming technologies. In 2021, Fandom increased its gaming presence and widened its commercial revenue base when it purchased Fanatical, a major online retailer of video games.
With this purchase, Fandom solidifies its position as the preeminent platform for fans everywhere, where culture and commerce meet.
Red Ventures relied exclusively on LionTree as its financial counsel in this deal.
