The upcoming free-to-play multiplayer first-person arena shooter video game XDefiant is being published by Ubisoft in France. The Tom Clancy’s universe moniker was dropped in March 2022, and the game was relaunched as “A Ubisoft Original.” It is anticipated to include characters from other Ubisoft franchises.
The “Defiant” group, Wolves from Ghost Recon, Echelon from Splinter Cell, as well as the Outcasts and Cleaners, make up the game’s environment (from The Division). Defiants can be customized with qualities, skills, gadgets, weapons, and accessories.
There are six-versus-six linear game options (such as “Domination” and “Escort”) available. The game features punk-style graphic elements. In North America in 2021, a closed test of a pre-alpha version of XDefiant was conducted. A second examination is scheduled for February 2023.
Xdefiant Release Date: The Revolutionary New Game You Can’t Afford to Miss
This week marks the beginning of the first “insider” playtest for XDefiant, the class-based, free-to-play first-person shooter that appears to be Ubisoft’s response to Call of Duty. This serves as a reminder that XDefiant is still in development despite previous project cancellations by Ubisoft.
The playtest will be cross-play between Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC for insiders who registered via the XDefiant website. The test’s objectives are to put cross-play through its paces and gain feedback on the console experience.
For a playtest, there certainly seems to be plenty of stuff for gamers to try out. Four game modes and 13 maps will be included in the test. From February 16 to February 19, the test was administered. The same non-disclosure agreement that has applied to past XDefiant tests will apply to this one as well, prohibiting players from live streaming or recording gameplay.

A release date for XDefiant is not yet set. Since its debut in the summer of 2021, XDefiant has been frequently compared to Call of Duty Warzone 2.0 because its executive producer, Mark Rubin, formerly worked on Activision’s successful first-person shooter series.
It emphasizes swift combat and precise gunplay, but unlike Call of Duty, it offers a variety of classes to pick from that are inspired by groups found across the Tom Clancy gaming universe from Ubisoft. XDefiant no longer bears the Tom Clancy branding, despite having factions from several Tom Clancy titles.
From the first introduction of XDefiant, Ubisoft has kept a low profile. The game wasn’t included as part of the publisher’s Ubisoft Forward 2022 event, and the previous XDefiant playtest was back in October 2022, after which little has been heard about it.
Since July 2022, Ubisoft has discontinued four games, including the free-to-play battle royale Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Frontline and a Splinter Cell VR game. In January, the company said that it has canceled three unidentified projects.
The streak of cancellations had some fans apprehensive about the future of XDefiant but based on this recent playtest, it seems the game is still progressing forward.
