Why the release date moved

When we first wrote this preview, Activision had not announced a date. The Season 1 Battle Pass timer in the game counted down to around February 1, 2023.

Activision then pushed the season back two weeks. Season 2 of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 launched on February 15, 2023.

Did a Resurgence map arrive in Season 2?

Yes. Resurgence is a mode in which eliminated players can redeploy while their squad is still alive. Until Season 2, Battle Royale players had only one map, Al Mazrah, and reports said a smaller Resurgence-style map could arrive.

That report held up. Ashika Island debuted in Season 2 in both Battle Royale Resurgence and DMZ, the game’s extraction mode. That gave DMZ players a second location.

What PS4 and Xbox One players should know in 2026

Activision is ending Warzone on last-generation consoles. According to Activision Support, the game left the PS4 and Xbox One digital stores on June 4, 2026. Its in-game store on those consoles closed on June 25.

If you already own it, you can keep playing until Modern Warfare 4’s Season 1 begins. Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026, with Season 1 shortly after.

Activision says you can carry your Warzone progress over to a current-generation console or PC, as long as you use the same linked Activision account.
