The Long Dark includes an in-game map system that allows users to create their own while exploring the globe. Some people, on the other hand, prefer to see a map from the start of a game.
Due to popular demand, players of The Long Dark have created their own over the years, ensuring that those in need of assistance have it at their disposal. This guide is a compilation of region maps and transition zones to assist you in navigating the calm apocalypse.
The Long Dark Region Map
Because Hinterland has not released any official maps for The Long Dark, the collection below is a mix of community-created and in-game-drawn maps. Some will be more thorough than others, but all should be beneficial enough to keep players from freezing to death.
Because the game is constantly updated, and we rely on exceptional community members to make our maps detailed and precise, not all maps will be of similar value. We’ll be adding additional maps to this guide as we locate them. Some of the comprehensive maps included in this guide were created by Whiteberry, Stray Wolf, and stmSantana.
The Long Dark Mystery Lake Map
Mystery Lake is seen as an easier map to survive on due to a decent balance of indoor spots and access to the majority of fauna. There may be a large number of wolves, but the shelters are well-spaced.
Being caught in poor weather is rarely a cause for anxiety. This is a fantastic place to gain a feel for the game, but it can also give players false confidence when they venture into more punishing zones.
Mountain Town Map
Mountain Town (Milton in story mode) has a lot of residences. Thus, it’s a good spot to look for clothes. Wolves can be a nuisance in town because of the narrow sight lines caused by the many buildings.
It’s an essential halt on the way to Hushed River Valley, maybe The Long Dark’s most taxing zone. Mountain Town is an excellent area to visit, but not many players would want to live there.
Hushed River Valley Map
Hushed River Valley, with no indoor locations other than caves, maybe the deadliest region in The Long Dark. Expect to spend practically every moment outside and be prepared to climb a lot to get about the zone.
It’s easy to get disoriented and unforgiving. If you really want to put yourself to the test, walk in and refuse to leave for 30 days. If you survive, you’ll be among the best, presuming you don’t play on Pilgrim or Voyageur.

Bleak Inlet
Forlorn Muskeg is yet another region with no indoor locations. There are structures, but they are primarily open to the elements. The majority of the ice is fragile, making travel difficult. It does have one of the in-game forges. Thus, it is a place that most players will visit at some point.
There are two bears and numerous wolves, but you can see them a mile away. There’s fantastic loot to be obtained here if you’re prepared to put in the time and effort, including ridiculous numbers of Cat Tails to eat.
