Tactics Ogre Reborn Gameplay
Hiroaki Kato, producer and director of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, has long wished to return to the series, and the knowledge gained while creating the remaster of the series’ twelfth installment was instrumental in the creation of Tactics Ogre: Reborn.
When Yasumi Matsuno joined the team, it was decided that no further content would be added to the game. This was primarily due to financial limitations, but the developers also felt the game had enough material as it was, especially in light of the fact that the PSP remake greatly enhances the original SNES version with new levels, characters, and plot aspects.

Tactics Ogre: Reborn was originally intended to be a simple remaster, but the project’s scope grew as developers realized how much work would be required to accommodate the game’s multiplatform release, its low resolution on the PSP, and its requirement to support different languages.
Many of the modifications to the gameplay of Tactics Ogre: Reborn over the PSP version are the result of fan feedback, such as the return of individual unit levels like in the original.
The remake will include the Training Mode that was cut from the PSP version, as well as a new power leveling system that helps progress through the game faster by increasing experience points earned from battles against monsters of a higher level.
However, the new Union Level feature, akin to an army level that rises as the plot continues, will put a cap on how much experience you may grind for. On the initial run-through, this should help keep the game from getting too out of hand.
Tactics Ogre: Reborn’s updates go beyond merely making the game more enjoyable to play. In order to streamline the user experience, the interface has been updated to feature fewer menus during battle. The artificial intelligence has been redesigned from the ground up and is significantly more advanced than the original, with enemies now dynamically adapting to the player’s playstyle.

Yasumi Matsuno stressed how the AI is capable of managing simple conflicts on its own, such as those seen in Training Mode. Combat has been streamlined by removing a number of spells and skills and limiting the number of spells that can be assigned to a single unit. The release dates for PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch versions of Tactics Ogre Reborn are set for November 11th.
