Pokemon GO’s 2023 Event: Even if it is still technically the holiday season when this is being reported, The Pokémon Company has already announced a New Year’s 2023 party for Pokémon GO. The celebration will begin on the evening of December 31st, 2022, and continue each night until January 4th, 2023. (local time).
Special holiday-themed items and poses will be available for your characters, wild Pokémon will be decked out in festive garb and hats, and some returning characters will emerge from eggs.

Pokemon GO’s 2023 Event
New Pokemon
Pikachu will make his video game debut while sporting a party hat, and there will even be shiny varieties of the character floating around. On top of that, during the event, you can evolve a Hoothoot dressed for the New Year into a Noctowl.
Avatar Items
Both are available for purchase from the game’s store, and two new avatar items will be introduced for the New Year’s 2023 event. Upon the beginning of the event, the shop will stock the Pikachu Party Hat and the Party Popper Pose, and they will both remain until the end.
During this period, there will also be stickers with related themes. You can win these by spinning Poké Stops, receiving them as gifts, or buying them from the game’s shop.
Wild Encounters
The following Pokémon will be appearing in the wild during the celebratory period:
- Hoothoot wearing a New Year’s outfit
- Pikachu wearing a party top hat
- Wurmple wearing a party hat

Each of the following Pokémon will be available to hatch from 7km Eggs during the event, with Shiny variants available for each:

- Pichu wearing a party hat

Field Research Tasks
New Year’s-themed Research Tasks will be available during the event, providing Stardust as a reward for completion.

The following Pokémon will be appearing in One-Star, Three-Star, Five-Star, and Mega Raids across the event. A Shiny variant is available for each.

Event Bonuses
There will be two Egg-related event bonuses active for the duration of the New Year’s 2023 celebration. When an Egg is placed in an incubator, its hatching distance is halved; when three Eggs are hatched in the app widget, their hatching distance is reduced by one-fourth.
