Overwatch 2 Hero Ramattra: To coincide with the release of the first gameplay footage for the new Overwatch 2 hero Ramattra, Blizzard has published a blog article that delves more deeply into Ramattra’s skillset.
Ramattra has the ability to assume a different form, one that enhances his strengths in numerous ways. However, you’ll spend the vast majority of your time assuming his identity in Omnic form. Here, the Void Accelerator, a staff with primary and secondary firing, is his preferred weapon of choice.

A flood of nanoparticles is released from the primary fire source. There is no damage falloff with these, thus they must be projectiles. That means you can deliver damage from a distance as Ramattra, but getting up close and personal with the foe is still preferable. Associate game designer Tess Leiman explained that “if you’re near to enemies and throw your stuff in right in their face, you’re going to deal quite an amount of damage,” especially if you’re landing [critical hits].
In the gameplay clip, we see Ramattra erect a barrier with the staff, which is its secondary attack. Similar to Mei’s Ice Wall and Symmetra’s Photon Barrier, you’ll be able to see a line on the ground indicating where the barrier will appear before confirming its placement. It is said that the Void Barrier is a short-term, high-health barrier that can isolate foes.
Let’s get started on Nemesis right away. Ramattra’s Nemesis powers are enhanced by his increased protection and the addition of two more arms when he assumes this form.

When Pumpel swings, “a short-range power wave is launched,” as Leiman put it. The penetrating nature of the assault ensures that even when multiple foes are bunched together, each and everyone will be struck. It’s fun to mess about with Reinhardt’s shield, D.Va’s Defense Matrix, and Winston’s bubble in this environment.
Ramattra can block attacks by throwing his arms in front of his face with a special ability called Block. Like Doomfist’s Power Block, it mitigates frontal attacks like Hanzo’s Dragonstrike and Torbjörn’s Molten Core, and it also acts to lessen the damage taken from behind. It has no cooldown, however, using Block will reduce Ramattra’s movement speed and leave him open to assaults from behind.
Nemesis mode, however, has a cooldown. You have a total of eight seconds to use this form before you have to wait through the cooldown. When he assumes his Nemesis form, he becomes a much more formidable opponent.
Ramattra’s abilities come in two flavors: the more powerful Omnic and the more malicious Nemesis. The trailer’s gravity well ability was shown off, and it goes by the name Ravenous Vortex. It’s a missile that “bounces off walls, adversaries, and slippery slopes like roofs,” but it doesn’t do anything until it hits the ground. According to Leiman.
As soon as this sphere of nanites meets the ground, an area of effect is triggered that slows down foes and draws them to the ground. If you’re Baptiste or Winston, good luck escaping from Ravenous Vortex; enemies can’t jump as high there, either. This skill also has a damaging effect.
Ramattra’s Ultimate has been completed. The name of this thing is Annihilation. That’s a fantastic name, and it even seems like a lot of fun, unless you happen to be on the opposing team. The effect is similar to that of Transcendence, in that a large ring is formed about him. Lieman explained that “Annihilation’s beams bind to nearby foes, draining their health.”
Annihilation is unique in that, despite its very short base time, it can persist eternally so long as a beam is linked to an enemy. You can’t avoid the Ultimate by waiting it out if you’re caught in one of the tethers. You can either run away or try to kill Ramattra, which can be difficult because he’ll be in Nemesis mode for the duration of the Ultimate, giving him additional health and defense.

In overtime, while the enemy team shambles toward the objective, Annihilation feels like it may come in quite helpful since you could theoretically keep the Ultimate on until you completely wipe them out. When an opposing Ramattra uses Annihilation, you’ll hear the phrase “Suffer, as I have” said by one of them.
That’s a frighteningly foreboding warning to keep out of the way. Okay, so that’s Ramattra’s gear right there. I think it will be a lot of fun, so I’m looking forward to giving him a shot.
