Microsoft is rearranging leadership in the Xbox gaming and marketing teams following the completion of its contentious $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
The Verge revealed an internal message from Xbox CEO Phil Spencer today, in which he informed employees that Microsoft will promote Sarah Bond to Xbox president, placing her in charge of all software and hardware platforms. It should be noted that this might include the new disc-less Xbox Series X, which could be released next year, as well as a next-generation hybrid Xbox system in 2028, all of which have been revealed in FTC filings.
Meanwhile, Matt Booty has been appointed to president of gaming content and studios, with responsibility for ZeniMax and Bethesda operations. The studio will remain a “limited integration entity” but will report to Booty.
“To manage the platform of today and build the platform of tomorrow, we are bringing together the teams that will make this possible,” Spencer wrote in his note to employees. “Sarah Bond will lead this team as President of Xbox — bringing together Devices, Player and Creator Experiences, Platform Engineering, Strategy, Business Planning, Data and analytics, and Business Development.”

Bond, who was instrumental in the Activision Blizzard acquisition, is now the first female president in Xbox’s 22-year history. According to The Verge, once Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick leaves at the end of 2023, there will be more women than men in top roles at Xbox and Microsoft, which is an uncommon occurrence in the gaming industry.
Aside from Bond, Joslyn Main will be Xbox’s chief of staff, while Ami Silverman will be Microsoft’s top consumer sales officer. Cynthia Per-Lee will be corporate vice president of human resources, Kari Perez will be general manager of communications, and Linda Norman will be CELA’s corporate vice president.
