Mabosstiff is one of the new Pokémon added in Generation Nine. This imposing dog, known as the Boss Pokémon, is of the Dark type and has a vicious bite. At first glance, its statistics do not appear to be very impressive.
However, when employed by a good player, Mabosstiff may be a formidable foe. Here’s our breakdown of Mabosstiff’s vulnerabilities and best counters in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Mabosstiff Weakness
With a Base Stat Total of 505, Mabosstiff is far from a powerhouse. Despite this, its stats are divided in such a way that it may be a highly useful Pokémon when used correctly. Its basic 120 Attack is high, which complements Mabostiff’s overall strong bulk and decent speed.
Furthermore, Mabosstiff’s Dark-type means it has just three vulnerabilities in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Mabosstiff is vulnerable to Bug, Fairy, and Fighting-type attacks, therefore employ them whenever possible.
It is resistant to both Dark and Ghosts and completely immune to Psychic kinds. This makes Mabosstiff ideal for neutralizing strong Psychic-type Pokémon.
When confronting Mabosstiff, you mustn’t settle for anything less than a favorable matchup. This is because it learns Jaw Lock, a Dark-type move that prevents you from switching out once used.
If your Pokémon is unable to cause Mabosstiff problems and is locked in, your opponent is free to utilize a setup move such as Hone Claws. This may result in your remaining party members being carried away by a supercharged Mabosstiff.
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, one major vulnerability to exploit is Mabosstiff’s lack of Speed and Special Defense. Although neither is horrible, both stats are low enough that you can generally out-speed and defeat Mabostiff with a powerful Special Attacker.
Furthermore, its move pool isn’t particularly diversified, making it easy to guess which movements an opponent Mabosstiff would make.
