One of the most recognizable maps in all of gaming, Summoner’s Rift, is the foundational map of League of Legends and has been for many years. However, nothing remains the same forever, and Riot has determined that it merits a significant overhaul for Season 14.
In other places, mainly around the river, the map’s basic topography and layout are also changing, and monsters are receiving a void-style redesign that adds some significant new elements to some of them.
You can test out each of these modifications later today on the PBE, or you can wait until early January for their official introduction as part of the upcoming season.
LOL Season 14 Changes
Bot and Top Lanes Are More Comparable
- Now, the red-side and blue-side landscapes are comparable.
- Brush went to where the river was in the center.
- Now, the red-side and blue-side landscapes are comparable.
- A new, tri-brush-equipped route has been constructed for the red side to access the river.
- Brush along the wall on the red side shifted to the center of the river.
The modifications to the top and bottom lanes in Summoner’s Rift’s basic architecture will probably have the most effects. Red and blue sides will no longer have a more leisurely escape or swindling route to one lane depending on your side, thanks to Riot’s new design for the zones surrounding the river, which aims to make mobility more equitable for both.
Given that the red side’s easy access to the lane from their jungle has been eliminated and that there is a large curving wall in the way, one would think that these adjustments in the top street would benefit the blue side more.
But clearing the bushes on the blue side of the river can actually make swindles more difficult. Bot lane appears to move in the other direction, which is better for the red side.
If you are forced into a river and are unable to return, you no longer have to make the arduous journey back to your lane. Additionally, you may hide in your lovely new tri-brush.

The Midlane is a Larger
- The brush on each side retreated from the lane.
While mid stays mostly unaltered in comparison to the other two lanes, the one change that is on the horizon appears to be beneficial.
The lane’s bushes on each side have been somewhat repositioned back into the river, which should make it more difficult for adversaries to materialize and quickly punch you in the face suddenly. I can definitely see the tweak accomplishing its goal of making less mobile heroes more competitive in the mid-lane.
Three Distinct Barons, Each With Their Pits
- Added a new wall across from the dragon and baron pits
- Baron’s visual update
- At 20 minutes, one of the three Barons will now appear.
- Every kind of Baron has a distinct pit and special abilities.
The most intriguing development of all appears to be the giant boy’s evolution during Season 14. Similar to the Dragon, several varieties of Baron can spawn, and each one has a unique pit and corresponding abilities.
You are already familiar with the iconic design of Hunting Baron. Territorial Baron creates two entryways on either side of the wall that he places in the center of his pit’s entrance. The All-Seeing Baron essentially transforms his hole into an extended tube, where he lounges.
The press briefing did not reveal each one’s unique skills, but we do know that they will all be made to work with the new pit layouts to provide each battle with a challenging new task.
I’m excited to give this, Baron’s first significant update in a very long time, a go. Over the years, he has become somewhat predictable, so you can usually ignore what he is doing and instead concentrate on what the opponents are doing if they oppose.
You’ll now have to think about how to position yourself in the new pits, but Baron should have some exciting surprises for us as we wait to figure everything out.
