Sackboy Strikes Back: Ultimate Spinoff of LittleBigPlanet Mobile Gets Release Date!

LittleBigPlanet Release Date

Ultimate Sackboy, the latest mobile spin-off of the LittleBigPlanet brand, will be available on. Despite the long gap between core entries, the LittleBigPlanet series has continued to thrive thanks to several successful offshoots.

One of the best first-party PS3 games ever was the 2008 original LittleBigPlanet. Successive games in the series have been well received, but since LittleBigPlanet 3’s release in 2014, there has been little to no activity in the main series.

Initially developed by Media Molecule, the series was abandoned after LittleBigPlanet 2 in favor of developing Dreams, a game with a similar emphasis on game creation that was released in 2020. One user even managed to replicate Halo Infinite in Dreams, demonstrating the creative potential of the platform.

While fans have been clamoring for a new core LittleBigPlanet game, the series has remained active owing to various spin-off releases. Sackboy, the playable protagonist, has been in the spotlight for quite some time.

One of the launch games for the PS5 was Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which included easter eggs for LittleBigPlanet for dedicated players. Those anticipating the next LittleBigPlanet spinoff won’t have to wait much longer.

Following that is Ultimate Sackboy, a free-to-play runner game coming to smartphones on February 21. Ultimate Sackboy’s January 18 release date was confirmed in a blog post by the game’s developer and publisher, Exient. Pre-registration for the game is now live on the Google Play Store.

The aesthetic is reminiscent of an earlier mobile spinoff of LittleBigPlanet called Run Sackboy! Run! It appears that Sony’s acquisition of mobile developer Savage Game Studios and Ultimate Sackboy is part of an endeavor to expand the PlayStation mobile gaming division.

Sony, unlike rival Nintendo, is not known for its long-term commitment to its franchises. Despite their popularity, many PlayStation series only last for several games until they are canceled or forgotten. After over seven years, certain game franchises have gone without new entries, including Killzone, Bloodborne, and The Order: 1886.

Sony’s recent expansion into the mobile industry has renewed optimism that more PlayStation series may see new life for a new generation of gamers. On February 22, Ultimate Sackboy will be available on Mobile.
