Dontnod Entertainment created the first five episodes of the series and the sequel in 2018, but subsequent games have been developed by Deck Nine, which debuted with the trilogy-length prequel Life is Strange: Before the Storm and most recently delivered the standalone adventure Life is Strange: True Colors.

Square Enix has said that following the release of True Colors, they would release a new collection that includes a remastered version of the original game as well as Before the Storm.

The announcement of a remastered collection was met with enthusiasm, but gamers waited anxiously to see how the two games would be altered by the process. To demonstrate the specific improvements made to the original game, Square Enix has released a brand new extended gameplay video for Life is Strange: Remastered Collection.

This 6-minute video introduces the first episode of Life is Strange, Chrysalis, in which Max Caulfield learns her power to reverse time while witnessing an argument between popular teen Nathan Prescott and her childhood friend Chloe Price. Square Enix claims that the game now renders in native 4K on Unreal Engine 4, has a reworked lighting system, and has improved character models and animations.

Although the original game already looked great when it was launched in 2015, Square Enix and Deck Nine have gone to great measures to improve upon it, as can be seen in the newly released teaser. However, Deck Nine’s announcement that the Nintendo Switch version will be delayed owing to it requiring more development time than the other console versions raises questions about how effectively the game would be functioning on various platforms.

Regardless, despite a few bugs found by certain fans, Life is Strange: Remastered Collection seems to be a significant improvement over the original game. It’s intriguing to think about where the series may go from here, especially because other narrative-driven games like Goodbye Volcano High are trying to emulate Life is Strange’s style.

On February 1st, the Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions of Life is Strange: Remastered Collection will be released. Later in 2022, the game will be available on the Nintendo Switch.
