Poppy Playtime was first launched on PC, and its control mechanism was based on a mouse and keyboard. It is possible to use a controller with Poppy Playtime, but the user must walk outside the game’s borders to do so. Fortunately, it is not too difficult to set up.
The first Chapter and Second Chapter of Poppy Playtime are presently available on PC and mobile platforms, with no word on any future ports. It’s unclear how many chapters the game will get in the future.
The developers may prefer to wait till the game is ready before bringing it to consoles in a more comprehensive version.
As of this writing, Poppy Playtime does not support internal controllers. It is not feasible to rebind the controls to a joypad using the in-game interface.
If the first chapter of Poppy Playtime receives an official console port, controller support will be required, and it will most likely be included in the PC version as well.
Poppy Playtime on mobile devices offers touchscreen controls that are similar to controllers, therefore it appears that official controller support will be added at some point.
How Do I Play Poppy Playtime With Steam Controller?
To utilize a controller in the PC version of Poppy Playtime, the player needs to navigate to the game’s page in their Steam library, then click the cog symbol and select “Properties”. The player should then navigate to the “Controller” menu and pick the “Override for Poppy Playtime” drop-down menu.
From this option, choose “Enable Steam Input”. If the game is currently active, it must be restarted before the changes can take effect.
Once this is completed, the player will be able to utilize a variety of compatible controllers in Poppy Playtime, including the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller, the Nintendo Switch Pro controller, or one of the Xbox ones.
It is worth noting that the controller controls used in this manner are not flawless. Steam merely remaps mouse and keyboard elements to the controller, such as mouselook to the right stick and WASD to the left stick.
The game is still playable in this mode, but the controls are not as snappy as when using the default way. The first chapter of Poppy Playtime is incredibly tense, with players on edge since they don’t want to be Huggy Wuggy’s next victim. If Poppy Playtime players wish to catch up before the next chapter, they may opt to remain with the old control method.
