Honkai Star Rail is a turn-based RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity is on the brink of extinction. You play as a starship captain, leading a team of heroes to fight against the Honkai, a mysterious force that corrupts everything it touches.
The game features a variety of characters, each with their skills, talents, and relics. Some characters are better suited for certain situations than others, so knowing their strengths and weaknesses is crucial for building a balanced and effective team.
In this article, we will rank the characters in Honkai Star Rail based on their performance in the Memory of Chaos mode, which is the main PvE content of the game. We will also explain the criteria we used to evaluate them and provide some tips.
How We Ranked the Characters
We ranked the characters in Honkai Star Rail based on four factors:
- Damage: How much damage can they deal to single-target or multi-target enemies?
- Support: How much they can buff, heal, or debuff allies or enemies.
- Utility: How much they can provide extra benefits such as speed, different turns, revive, etc.
- Synergy: How well they can work with other characters or relics.
We also considered their rarity, availability, and ease of use. We divided the characters into five tiers: S+, S, A, B, and C. S+ tier characters are the best, while C tier characters are the weakest or least useful.
Note that this tier list is based on our opinion and experience with the game. It is not an official or definitive ranking. You may have different preferences or opinions depending on your playstyle, team composition, or relic choices. Feel free to experiment and find what works best for you.

These are the best characters in Honkai Star Rail. They excel in damage, support, utility, or synergy. They can fit in any team and make it stronger.
Seele
Seele is a 5-star character from The Hunt Path. She has extremely high single-target damage and speed. She can also take an extra turn after using her skill or ultimate. She is one of the best DPS characters in the game.
Based on my experience with the beta, here’s a mini-tier list for 5-star characters in Honkai Star Rail, suitable for early to mid-game progression!

Bronya
Bronya is a 5-star character from The Order Path. She can give powerful offensive buffs to the whole party and even grant a buffed character an extra turn. She can also provide a defensive fan at the start of a battle. She is one of the best support characters in the game.
Jing Yuan
Jing Yuan is a 5-star character from Erudition Path. He has extremely high multi-target damage thanks to his Lightning-Lord follow-up attacks that deal more damage when using his skill or ultimate. He can also stun enemies with his ultimate.
Luocha
Luocha is a 5-star character from The Order Path. He can heal allies based on his total attack with his skill and talent. He can also deal damage and scale from his attack with his ultimate. He is one of the best hybrid characters in the game.
Bailu
Bailu is a 4-star character from The Order Path. She has the highest healing output in the game. She can also revive downed party members with her skill and ultimate. She is one of the best healers in the game.
S Tier Characters
These are great characters in Honkai Star Rail. They have great damage, support, utility, or synergy. They can work well with most teams and situations.
Silver Wolf
Silver Wolf is a 5-star character from The Hunt Path. He has high single-target damage and speed. He can also reduce enemies’ defense with his skill and ultimate.
Clara
Clara is a 5-star character from Erudition Path. She has serious multi-target damage and speed. She can also reduce enemies’ attacks with her skill and ultimate.
Yanqing
Yanqing is a 5-star character from The Hunt Path. He has high single-target damage and speed. He can also increase his attack and crit rate with his skill and ultimate.
Gepard
Gepard is a 4-star character from The Hunt Path. He has high single-target damage and speed. He can also increase his attack and crit damage with his skill and ultimate.
Himeko

Herta is a 4-star character from The Order Path. She has very low single-target damage and speed. She can also heal one ally based on her total attack with her skill and ultimate.
How to Use the Tier List
This tier list is a general guide for choosing the best characters in Honkai Star Rail. However, it is not the only factor to consider when building your team.
