Earlier this week, Arrowhead Studios announced that Helldivers 2‘s server issues have been resolved, allowing them to move on to more exciting things, maybe including playable mechs.
Due to a video that has just surfaced on Reddit, those mobile towers of destruction could be more imminent than we think.
In Helldivers 2, mechs will be present. One appears prominently in the February “Report for Duty” teaser, which includes the first game’s inclusion, with the subtitle “coming soon after launch.”

It seems like there are many kinds of mechs at work here: The one in the foreground of this leaked footage is an EXO 48, according to Redditor VegetableWater4099, while the one in the Helldivers 2 teaser is an EXO 44.
Although it’s difficult to make out the mech in the backdrop, the important thing is that if the evaluation is right, we’ll be able to choose from several types of mechs in the game. The player who got their hands on this awesome new gear “spawned in multiple types of mech” while playing, according to Fozzye18.
The game already has more than simply mechs that can be used. The player that spawns the mechs is stated by Fozzye18 to have access to “new weapons like an energy RPG coming, a meteorite that hits like the nuke, a group of Helldivers you can call in to support you (NPCs), and more.”
Everyone is excited about the giant stompy machines’ debut in the live game, and there’s been a fair bit of discussion about how they got there. Some players believe this content is already in the game’s code and will be released in future updates.
Dataminers have found several unusable strategies in the game’s files, including one that seems especially relevant at the moment: “-DropoffCombatWalker.”
Some gamers have even speculated that the developers at Arrowhead may be behind this, as they are allegedly testing the new technology in other games at the same time to generate buzz.
Though implausible, this is really within the realm of possibility because of the game master capabilities outlined by Arrowhead, which provide the developer complete control over matches.
No matter who it was, they seemed to be enjoying themselves. “He was just showing me all the stuff he was pulling out of the files he had so I’m unsure if he was a hacker or a dev but he seemed super excited to show us,” wrote fozzye18. “Until my game crashed from everything being loaded in and then I couldn’t find his username again.”
