It’s been seven years since the publication of HOI IV, and I’m seeing an increasing number of individuals inquiring if/when HOI 5 will be released. I believe there will be a sequel at some point, but I’m doubtful…
The current edition still maintains a peak of around 50,000 active gamers every 24 hours. Furthermore, there are functional modding groups, and developers are hard at work on a new DLC. As a result, I believe we will neither see a new HOI5 in 2023 nor its sequel in 2024.
But let us speculate on the release date, look attentively at the wishes, and see if there are any leaks regarding this magnificent grand strategy game.
Hearts of Iron V Release Date Speculation
We don’t expect to hear about a Hearts of Iron 5 release date until late 2024 at the earliest unless Paradox Interactive has a big surprise up its sleeve – the most recent DLC, By Blood Alone, was released in September 2022, and there’s been no hint of a forthcoming announcement for the series.
Furthermore, if the previous examples of older Paradox siblings are any indication, the game has at least two years before a sequel is expected to be released.
There were eight years between Crusader Kings (2004) and Crusader Kings 2 (2012), and another eight until Crusader Kings 3 in 2020. Europa Universalis 4 has been released for seven and a half years with no announced sequels.
Is there space for Hearts of Iron V?
The possibility of a release date is followed by the question of whether there is room for another sequel. This is a crucial subject because we have recently received three significant DLCs for HOI 4: No Step Back (rework of supplies and the USSR), By Blood Alone (rework of planes and Italy), and Arms Against Tyranny (rework of infantry, special forces, and North European states).
All three most recent DLCs added new gaming aspects to the game, and I dare to say that, like you, I find the game continually entertaining. Many elements were reworked, while many others were thoroughly processed. And the number of players seen playing HOI4 demonstrates that the PDX’s strategy is paying off.
As a result, there is little incentive to remake and generate a sequel. It would be a risk, according to the Paradox. Everything is now operational, and I believe the community is pleased. However, keep in mind that the purpose may be more “technological” in this case.
Some decisions made by the PDX in 2015 – 2016 regarding the present version may be restrictive for the most current version of HOI, but it may also be a form of freedom to avoid mistakes. It could indicate that the game is evolving in a direction that it was not a few years ago and is now approaching.
Community wishes For Hearts of Iron V
I looked into community wishes for HOI5, and here are some features that the hypothetical sequel may include and that members of the community want:
- Fronts, commands, and battles that are more realistic.
- More specific options for how to approach each match.
- Detail-oriented economics.
- Propaganda.
- Trooper equipment is detailed.
- Reorganization of mobilization and reserves.
- Character models and RPG mechanics are similar to those seen in CK3.
- Reimagining of naval engagements.
And I’m sure that just picking a few issues here will spark a lot of debate on Reddit or elsewhere on what the new Hearts of Iron V should include.
Anyway, while exploring the boards, it was evident that the sentiments on Hearts of Iron V were not simply “give me a new game.” The “DLC” system, which regularly brings the game to life, works quite well. And many of the participants appear to be content.
