It’s time to play everyone’s favorite game: not GTA 6, but the GTA 6 Release Date Quiz. Who is taking the platform this time? Why, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot addressed the issue in a recent investor Q&A. Everyone, put your fingers on the buzzers!
GTA 6 will be released in 2025, according to the debut clip, which has sparked more study and discussion than most archeological treasures.
Discovering the release date of GTA 6 is likely to be a fundable R&D aim for some videogame publishers, much as ski resorts are interested in discovering the exact cadence of avalanches. However, Guillemot claims he is not concerned about rivalry with Rockstar in general.
“What we’ve seen in the past is that each time there’s a big release like GTA, there are more and more people coming back to the industry, and that helps other games to sell as well,” he said during the conference call with investors. “We see it for sure.” The rising tide lifts all boats.
“We look at this and we are really organizing things around the launch of that game, which we do not know exactly when it is going to happen,” Guillemot said. “We believe it will be closer to our financial year ’26 than our financial year ’25.
But what we’ve seen is that it’s typically positive for the market, and we had a successful launch with the GTA 5 first launch and the GTA 5 online game, both of which generated a lot of revenue and profit.”
As IGN adds, this means that Guillemot believes GTA 6 will not be released until at least April 2025. But, what is this? Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of GTA 6, is chuckling and shaking their heads. In an earnings call last week (via Variety), the company reaffirmed its earlier sales forecast of $8 billion for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.
That represents a significant increase over Take-Two’s fiscal 2024 earnings prediction of $5.25 to $5.3 billion. A GTA 6 release at the start of 2025 would be one option to bridge the gap, but in the Take-Two Interactive call, CEO Strauss Zelnick resisted the temptation to be more specific, saying simply that “we’re seeking perfection and when we’ve optimized, that’s the time to release”. Perhaps they’ll push it back so they can accommodate more Florida men.
