Will GTA 6 Cost $150? Fans React to the Rumored Price Tag

Update (October 2026): The $150 rumor was wrong. Rockstar priced Grand Theft Auto VI at $79.99 for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition, and pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. The game launches on November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, a date Take-Two repeated in its August 2026 earnings release. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has explained why GTA 6 is launching on consoles first. Our original September 2023 report follows.

A new rumor says Grand Theft Auto 6 could cost $150 at launch. That is far more than most new games cost.

Fans are paying close attention because the wait has been so long. Grand Theft Auto 5 came out in 2013, more than ten years ago.

Where the $150 figure comes from

Niche Gamer reported the rumor on September 5. The same report pointed to a developer conversation from the 2022 GTA 6 leak. That conversation claimed the game had been in development since 2014 and had cost Rockstar more than $2 billion.

Niche Gamer presented both numbers as rumors, so treat them with caution. A $150 standard edition would be very unusual. A price that high would more likely belong to a special or collector’s edition.

At the time of this report, Rockstar had not announced a release date or a price. Until it did, any claim about how much GTA 6 would cost, or when it would arrive, was guesswork.

What GTA 6 actually costs

Rockstar revealed the price on June 24, 2026, a day before pre-orders opened, Variety reported. The game itself comes in two editions. A separate collector’s box, announced in September, is merchandise only.

OptionUS priceWhat you get
Standard Edition$79.99The base game
Ultimate Edition$99.99The game plus extra vehicles, weapons and apparel
The Goodtime State Vice City Collection$399.99A limited collector’s box of merchandise; the game is sold separately

So the most you can pay for the game itself is $99.99, not $150.

The $399.99 collector’s box

Only the Vice City Collection costs more, and it does not include a copy of GTA 6. Rockstar lists it as available to ship from November 19, 2026. Our separate report covers the price and contents of the $400 GTA 6 collector box, which does not include the game.

No disc, and a bonus for early buyers

There is no disc version. The physical edition is a download code in a box, according to Variety.

Pre-orders and purchases made before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar describes the game as a single-player experience at launch.

Take-Two defends the price

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked why GTA 6 costs more than the company’s other big releases. The question came on Take-Two’s August 7 earnings call, where the company talks investors through its latest results.

He said that, given the hype, Take-Two could have made “any number of other pricing choices,” Kotaku reported, but that the goal is to offer more value than it charges.

Demand does not seem to have suffered. On the same call, Zelnick called the level of pre-orders “unprecedented and astonishing,” Shacknews reported. He did not share sales figures.
