We live in a culture where certain features in video games are assumed to be present in new releases simply because they are the standard in the industry. For instance, after the launch patch (or Day One Patch) is applied, a game should be in perfect working order.
But in recent years, there have been many instances of games being off schedule, and the resulting criticism has been strong. Moreover, New Game Plus Mode is a feature that many players hope to find in single-player games. Fans were somewhat aback by its absence in Fire Emblem Engage.

A mode like that being included in the game begs the question: why? Well, it’s a mode that’s gained a lot of traction in the solo gaming community since it was introduced.
For the brevity-impaired, this mode allows you to resume the game with your units already at high levels and with all of their skills intact, but the difficulty of the enemy is increased to match.
As you play through the game again, this is designed to be an additional difficulty. Since this feature has been in previous Nintendo games, some players were quick to express their disappointment that it was absent from Fire Emblem Engage on social media.
Then why doesn’t it appear in the game? No one but Intelligent Systems knows their exact thought process when creating the title, so it’s difficult to say. Since the other games in the series, all feature a New Game Plus Mode, many fans are wondering why this one doesn’t. Those optimistic, though, need not lose hope.
Multiple rounds of the Expansion Pass are expected, as confirmed by the development team. At the start, we got a slew of fresh content, including two new emblem rings, new equipment, maps, and more.

The contents of the next three waves will be kept secret for the time being. There’s still time for a New Game Plus mode to sneak in during one of the final three waves. Those who purchase the Expansion Pass can rest assured that a new optional narrative titled Fallen Xenologue will be available.
This will either expand upon the conclusion of the main game (which we won’t reveal here) or take a different path entirely within the same game.
