Bungie unveiled its plans for the fifth subclass, Strand, detailing how it would be implemented for the Warlock, Hunter, and Titan specializations. Warlocks will be able to summon legions of tiny Strand aphids to follow and attack their foes.
A steady stream of grapples and aerial slams will give hunters unprecedented mobility. Green blade fists will be a trademark of Titans. Because of this, players began debating the concept of class identity, which Bungie often discusses when introducing new subclasses or revamping existing ones, like with the light 3.0 changes.
Another recurring issue is that the Titans’ sense of group identification appears to be overly dependent on the idea that Titans like to punch stuff.

This point was bolstered by a comment from designer Kevin Yanes given to GamesRadar, in which he discussed the backlash of Titans receiving so many fist-based kits:
“Titan mains, we love you. We do. But remember that we try to reinforce your core fantasy. And at some point, your guy’s holding the fist on the cover of the game.”
As a result, people started talking about how, contrary to what you might think from looking at promotional imagery or book covers, Titans don’t only use their fists most of the time.
In my opinion, we may have gone a little much with the punching meme. There was already one wandering super that relied on a sprint-forward melee punch, but now we get a second one in Strand.
You’ve got a wandering, punching super and a sprint forward melee punch, just like Stasis. Arc Titans have both a ranged and a ranged and punching super attack. Moreover, the Titans have three additional roaming supers in the Void and Solar spheres.
Titans’ core fantasy should include more than just strong defense and punching, in my opinion. I also think you may use the concept of a Titan fantasy with enormous, awkward weapons, as illustrated on several of those covers. Legendary characters like Saint, with his booming shotgun, and Saladin, with his blazing combat axe, are both included in the lore.
I believe a Titan was the original owner of Gjallarhorn, but I can’t be positive. If you accept this, I think you’ll find yourself gravitating toward single-target supers and ranged attacks rather than just more and more melee. And if you insist on using melee techniques, I recommend branching out from only fists.

As a first step, the Burning Maul is adequate. A massive Strand-busting sword is what I have in mind (and I maintain the general position that Stasis and Strand both need two super options per class to match light).

If Bungie insists on maintaining too strict an institutional identity, I believe it will run into difficulties. We saw this trend begin with the Warlock class when the Solar Warlock was so focused on air superiority that it drained the subclass of all its power (outside of Well, of course). This notion that Titans are all fists and no brains seem to be backfiring now.
