Following a handful of nominations for The Game Awards and the success of Baldur’s Gate 3, developer Larian Studios has teased its next project.
Swen Vincke, the studio’s boss, stated in an X/Twitter post echoing Larian’s request for The Game Awards votes, “Seeing our little niche RPG make such waves is very motivating,” before talking vaguely about the studio’s next project.

There’s hardly much to go on, but fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 have already begun to speculate about what’s next for Larian. Will there be DLC or perhaps an expansion for Baldur’s Gate 3?
Given the game’s great success, there appears to be enough interest to justify such a release, despite concerns with high-level Dungeons & Dragons spells and powers if the level cap is raised above 12.
However, what about the “next big game”? Vincke revealed in July, prior to the blockbuster release of Baldur’s Gate 3, that a successor to Larian’s Divinity: Original Sin 2 was in the works. The Original Sin series is in the works, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up.
“It’s our universe we built, so we’re definitely gonna get back there at some point,” he stated. “We’ll get back there eventually.” We’ll finish this one [Baldur’s Gate 3] first, then take a break because we’ll need to recharge our creative batteries.
Four hundred developers are pouring their hearts and minds into this. You’re bringing the finest of them and their skills to this game. And it’s quite a thing.”
If Divinity isn’t following, how about a whole new game set in a different universe? Larian has been making fantasy RPGs for quite some time. Could it evolve into science fiction? Or how about a modern setting? Or perhaps try a new genre? Whatever comes next will undoubtedly be one of the most anticipated games in history.
For the time being, Baldur’s Gate 3 remains one of the most popular games in the world, and it is still one of the most-played games on Steam. Its long-awaited Xbox version appears to be on the way. “Xbox fans and fans of physical media, watch this space for a formal announcement,” Larian said in a statement. “It’s going to be a busy week.”
